Philanthropy is not unusual for the leaders of successful and large companies - quite the opposite. Apple co-founder Steve Jobs was no exception in this regard. The widow of Steve Jobs, Laurene Powell Jobs, in one of her recentinterviews for the New York Times decided to talk about her late husband's philanthropic activities and the philosophy behind them. Laurene Powell Jobs is not one of those people who purposefully and actively seeks media attention, and she very rarely gives interviews. Even rarer are the moments in which Laurene Powell Jobs talks about when Jobs was alive and what their marriage was like.

"I inherited my fortune from my husband, who didn't care about accumulating wealth,” she stated, adding that she has dedicated her life to “doing what she does best” for the benefit of individuals and communities. By the mentioned activity, she meant her activities in the field of journalism. The widow of Steve Jobs makes no secret of her not-so-enthusiastic opinion of the current system. According to her, contemporary democracy is in great danger without a quality journalist. As part of her efforts to support quality journalism, Lauren Powell Jobs, among other things, financially supported the Emerson Collective Foundation in such a significant way.

In an interview with the New York Times, Laurene Powell Jobs spoke exceptionally about a number of topics, and the discussion also came up, for example, about the philosophy that Apple is following today. Steve Jobs did not hide his political and social attitudes, and Laurene Powell Jobs and the current CEO of Apple, Tim Cook, have a lot in common with him in this respect. Cook likes to say that we should leave the world in a better state than we left it, and Steve Jobs' widow shares a similar philosophy. Steve Jobs met his wife while he was still working at his company NeXT, and their marriage lasted twenty-two years until Jobs' death. Today, Jobs' widow talks about how she shared a rich and beautiful bond with her husband, and that he influenced her greatly. The two were able to talk to each other for several hours a day. Laurene often talks about how who she is today is greatly influenced by what Jobs was during his lifetime.

In the interview, she also recalled how often people quote Jobs' line about "resonating the universe". "He meant that we are capable—each of us—of influencing circumstances," she specified in the interview. "I think of it as looking at the structures and systems that govern our society and changing those structures," she stated. According to her, properly designed structures should not hinder people's ability to live productive and fulfilling lives. "It took me a while to understand that it was really possible. But that's at the heart of everything we do at Emerson Collective. We all believe that it is indeed possible." she concluded.
