Apple has released a highly anticipated Christmas ad. It's called Saving Simon and it doesn't show a single Apple product, instead it just shows that it's shot on the iPhone 13 Pro. And if you don't watch the video about the video, you might not even believe that you can shoot such a video with an iPhone. But it doesn't have to be that way.

The entire advertisement is in the spirit of how one little girl wants to keep alive not only the spirit of the Christmas holidays, but also one melting snowman. The story thus follows a whole year of the "life" of this symbol of winter, and it must be said that it is sweet, funny, touching and biblical at the same time (regarding the resurrection). Behind the camera, i.e. the iPhone, the director duo of Jason and Ivan Reitman, i.e. the son and his father, both proud of their Oscar nominations, presented themselves. The first-named, for example, filmed the hit Juno, while the second is responsible for the films Ghostbusters or Kindergarten Cop. The accompanying song then comes from Valerie June and its name is truly poetic: You and I.

On second glance

In a film about the film, the two directors explain their work and mention what they had to deal with. The problem here is that you can see the number of tricks they used to help them achieve the shots, and now we don't mean the numerous accessories they used to achieve such a result. Rather, we have in mind a "larger-than-life" size freezer, as well as one without a back, to achieve the ideal close-up shot, but also where the directors could play with depth of field.

Those with bad language could take the whole video as a deceptive advertisement for Apple, i.e. one that is more known among competitors, who use various tricks to help themselves to a more pleasing result. On the other hand, it should be mentioned that these are common cinematographic practices widely used throughout the industry. However, the directors mention here how they also used the macro mode of the new iPhone 13 Pro or, of course, the film mode.
