The new OS X Mavericks operating system came out less than two weeks ago, and in addition to the praise, he is also plagued by more than one problem. Newly, 2013 MacBook Air and MacBook Pro users are reporting that their entire system is losing sound…
At the same time, it is far from the first problem that the engineers in Cupertino have to solve. OS X Mavericks has problems with gmail or external drives from Western Digital.
MacBook Air and MacBook Pro with Haswell processors now lose sound in the latest operating system. Some report that system-wide audio suddenly cuts out when watching YouTube videos in Chrome, but that's not necessarily the case. Sometimes the sound turns off for no apparent reason.
However, this is not just a momentary issue, but a permanent phenomenon, and the sound cannot be "thrown back" with the sound control buttons or any other change in the settings. Restarting the computer will solve everything, but the sound may drop out again later.
Before restarting the computer, you can try connecting and disconnecting the headphones or killing the process in the Activity Monitor Core Audio. These measures work on some computers and not on others.
We personally haven't encountered this issue on a 2013 MacBook Air in the editorial department, however, many users report that they experience this issue frequently. And it is not excluded that the loss of sound can also befall older machines. So we can only hope that Apple reacts quickly and releases a fix.
Yes, this has happened to me. But I have a 11 MacBook Air 7″ i2011
I've noticed this too, along with Safari freezing, Dashboard crashes, and other little things. MacBook Pro 13 mid 2010.
Somehow the problems pile up
Unfortunately, I have to confirm the Macbook pro 13″ Retina 2012, it also happens when playing in a 3rd party player (Movist, VLC)
I have rMBP 2013 and I don't see anything like that.
It hasn't happened to me yet, but it seems to me that the sound is a bit quieter overall. MacBook Air 13″ i7 mid-2012.
I have an air, 13″ late 2011, but I haven't felt this problem yet - maybe it's because I don't use chrome, but it's more of a marginality.
Retina MBP, 13-inch, Late 2012, no problem
iMac late 2010, I have a problem with audio not only in the system but also in the boot, it doesn't work there at all. MB Air early 2012 without problems.
I would just correct that Mavericks are having trouble with Western Digital external drives. Isn't it more like the absolutely horrible Western Digital software that comes with their drives has problems with Mavericks?
Because it's not a stretch, so it's all speculation (only Lion doesn't have that problem ;-) ).
my macbook air 2013 has a rainbow wheel popping up all the time - mountain lion was fast and without a single problem.. If only a patch would come out..
It works for me with VLC on the macmini and it's pretty annoying to restart every time
..but it was already a problem with the last version of the OS, a patch was sent out and now it's doing it again GRRRR
and it's only a problem if you have sound via HDMI
Aren't these problems a bit too much lately? What will be the next jam :-(
Just sound? I am solving current problems with the rights to the address book on the Lacie external HDD, non-functional NTFS Paragon, non-functional NFS Manager, etc.
NTFS Paragon claims to support Mevricks, does it just want an update?
I'm more bothered by the incomplete Xcode... :(
I have a MacBook Air from 2013 and I didn't notice the problem then. It's true that I have the sound turned off a lot, because I do a lot of remote work on it ;-).
A colleague's entire system crashes almost every day - this is not good news for a professional graphic designer in a prestigious studio. I have an iMac 2013. Does anyone else have this problem?
Hmmm, what about the sound, that would work (iMac 27″ Late 2009), but the Mavericks system takes 1GB more RAM and overall the iMac has a higher temperature compared to Mountain Lion... Where is the memory compression that supposedly fits more? Otherwise, the brands are also strange. The whole line used to be, for example, yellow, now there is only a dot, indistinct... Me, let's see what the update will do...
You have RAM to be used. Taking up more RAM isn't a bug, but 10.9 just uses it more, which is fine. Memory compression starts at the moment when swap would have already started in previous versions. If you use up your memory a lot, you need to know that. 10.8 swapped me ostosest, on 10.9 it is simply compressed and the swap comes much later. From the point of view of memory management, I feel a noticeable improvement, and after a long time I really appreciate something in OS X, instead of the previous constant addition of serepeti. What used to happen to me before, that after 14 days with 8GB of RAM, I still had 6-8GB in the swap, which the OS could not effectively release (only a restart had to come), now no longer happens. Max. around 100MB is collected there for the same activities. So much for RAM. The temperature is a mystery to me, it dropped by 2010-5 degrees on my MBP 10, but I don't have an iMac.
I also have an iMac27 late 2009.. but I don't have a problem with the memory, so I don't have a problem with it, I have 16Gb and an SSD instead of the drive connected to FusionDrive (unofficial way) and everything sleeps fine. solve it :-)
MB Air 2013, I confirm this problem, I have encountered it several times, mainly in chrome. It is described in the discussions that it has something to do with the flash player plugin, but after editing nothing has changed. Overall, I would say that both Mavericks and iOS7 are incomplete and unfinished in many ways. I also have an iMac 2011, here, for example, with Mountain Lion, it went to sleep immediately within 2 seconds, in Maverick it takes an incredibly long time. Paradoxically, when I have Win 8.1 there via bootcamp, it goes to sleep almost immediately. Damage.
I also confirm the sound problem with MBA 2013
This is happening to me now on version 10.8, so maybe it's not the OS, but another application.
Just yesterday, this exact problem happened to me. I'm using the latest Safari. Even restarting the MacBook helped me.
Unfortunately, even my Macbook Air 2013 suffers from this ailment... the iMac 27″ does not.
off topic, but does anyone know why after switching to mavericks, every time I turn on my computer, it switches to the Dutch keyboard when I have CZ and EN language set as default. Yes, PROčko was bought in the Netherlands
I own an MBA 13″ 2013 and have not encountered any of these 3 problems.. Thank God. :)
I have a problem with scrolling and it doesn't matter if it's in a window or in an email. All of a sudden it gets stuck and the only thing that helps is closing the app. This is how it manifests itself on both the MacPro and the iMac. I don't know if it's only related to the Magic Mouse, because I have this mouse on both, but when I connected a regular ball Mighty to the MP after such a freeze, it stayed frozen. Does anyone have a similar problem?
My biggest problem with Mavericks right now is definitely battery life. I have a MB Pro 15″ Retina 2012 and in GM Mavericska the battery was able to easily last up to 8 hours, now I am happy here for 5.. I have no idea what to do with it..
I have the same problem, if anyone knows what to do with it, please let me know
I join with an iMac (2011): flickering of the rainbow wheel, even when browsing the web stupidly, and freezing of scrolling - mainly in Apple applications (Mail, etc.). And I'm not talking about iOS7. I wish the boys would take the throttle off and release a tuned sw. The kicks are a bit too much.
It does the same to me on idnes.cz (I don't visit lidovky.cz). But I can turn off Safari normally, and when I turn it back on, it runs normally. I didn't find a solution. But I suspect some kind of embedded advertisement or something similar, because it appears only occasionally and in several cases at once, then it's quiet again for a long time. I guess I'll have to reactivate AdBlock at least for some servers where they're overdoing it already.
I have AdBlock activated. I think it has something to do with javascript, there is plenty of it on idnes.
So on MBP 2010 (i5, 6GB, 128GB SSD) I tried 10.9 for about three days and I was happy to go back to 10.6.8.
If I ignore the higher temperature, higher noise (only after the indexing with Spotlight is complete) and the bug with Gmail, I simply won't try the missing Exposé and Spaces (the imitation starting with Leon is really laughable), discolored icons in the side panel (orientation by color is faster after all , than according to the shape of practically the same silhouettes) and completely unreadable badges on applications (I still don't understand why there is no "Bold font" option in the menu for low density displays), then mainly the impossibility of defining your own gestures (this means using the classic gesture mode from 10.6.8), incomprehensibly high processor demand when playing .mkv (ok, it will probably be solved with an update in time). Bugged drivers for integrated graphics (I almost forgot) and about a dozen other minor or major problems that I have already successfully pushed out of my memory.
I just still don't like the user interface, and I see it as a pointless pursuit of some kind of mythical cross between the mobile and desktop worlds, which will be characterized by perfect aesthetics, but in reality it will just be the worst compromise of all compromises.
Which brings us to my private opinion that Sir Jonathan spent his whole life designing products (copying BRAUN, of course) in shades of gray and after being shown the color pencils, he regularly raked and iOS7 is the result.
I got into a situation where I just stop eating Apple and if they don't get their act together, I'll have to look at the competition (and I don't even know which one, because the competition is even worse).
MB Air 2013 - After installing Mavericks, every now and then the files on my desktop are visibly updated, it's a short flash. They even disappeared once and appeared only after a restart. It's quite distracting at work if I'm not working in full screen mode.
MAC PRO 2,6 I7 – after clicking and opening, there is no sound, I found this out before the presentation, so I was late for a good while after restarting. It won't be only about AIR!!!! and that's not the only thing about MAV that doesn't work
I'm really thinking about buying my 1 macbook, because paying 30 sticks for something you can't rely on is not a good purchase. Does it affect all users or is it just a small amount?
jj the sound dropped out a couple of times, I thought it was some kind of connection problem, because otherwise I disconnected the thunderbolt, so I thought it was somehow messed up (even though I have sound through the jack connector and it has nothing to do with it), at least i know the problem is not in my new air, but in the system that will just be fixed... Don't panic, just buy it, there will be a patch in a few weeks...
