According to the portal OregonLive.com Apple is considering building an entirely new data center in the town of Prineville, with a 160-acre parcel up for grabs. Thanks to its mild climate, Oregon offers suitable conditions for the construction of cooling-intensive equipment. A decision will be made by the end of the year.

Let's recall that just this year Apple completed the construction of a giant data center in Maiden, North Carolina. The cost of implementing this project reached one billion US dollars. The reason for building such a monster is primarily iCloud and the current trend of storing your data in the cloud. About 100 megawatts are needed to operate, and in the future, according to plans, the size of the facility can be doubled.

The project, labeled "Maverick", envisages the construction of a 31 megawatt data center, which would be an excellent addition to the one from North Carolina. Of course, there is again the possibility of expanding the size of the entire device as the number of users of iCloud and other Apple services increases. Apple must decide by the end of the month whether to accept the offer from Oregon or wait and make do with the current capacity. At the same time, Apple uses two smaller data centers in the California cities of New Ark and Santa Clara.

It is certainly worth mentioning the fact that 300 meters from the offered plot is the newly built data center of the largest social network Facebook.
