It seems that Apple really shortened its presentation at the last minute and removed its novelty in the form of Apple Tags. These are meant to help people track marked items.

To the editors of the server MacRumors managed to get screenshots from iOS 13 that show the labels feature in all its glory. Tracked items appear in the Find My application. Here you can see not only your devices like AirPods, iPhone or MacBook, but also people and soon also items (Items).

All items are tied to your Apple ID and appear the same way on the map. When adding a new device, you are asked to pair a tag.

As soon as you are out of the specified range from the object on your iPhone, you will receive a notification. The device can be located much like when you search for an iPhone using the signal from the Apple Watch. The tag on the device should beep loudly or make another sound.

Apple labels Tiles and finding items

Items can also be set to lose mode. If another iPhone user finds them, they can easily contact the owner using iMessage, for example.

Another mode is Safe locations. In these places, objects will not send notifications if the user moves away from them.

Meaningful use of augmented reality

But Apple intends to add even more. Using augmented reality, he wants to simplify the search for objects in space. June the iOS 13 build then even references it in the code on the localization and contains the opening phrase:

"Walk a few steps and aim your iPhone up and down until the entire balloon fits in the frame."

So it will probably be possible to use ARKit to scan the space in search of things with an Apple label. iOS 13 itself also includes a special screen where we see a red and orange balloon. Although the image is in 2D, the scanning itself takes place in 3D space.

However, the leaked screenshots and codes are already from June. In the end, Apple did not introduce Apple Tags at the last Keynote and quite possibly removed them along with other functions. But some of them return in iOS 13.1, which will arrive on September 24 together with iPadOS. Will we see the function of searching for items?
