As Apple releases new beta versions of the iOS 11 operating system, which will be released to the public during the fall, other news surfaces that we can look forward to. One will probably be purely security - the option to deactivate Touch ID, or to unlock the device with a fingerprint.

A new setting in iOS 11 allows you to quickly press the iPhone's power button five times to bring up the emergency call screen. Line 112 must then be dialed manually, however, pressing the power button ensures one more thing – deactivation of Touch ID.

Once you get to the emergency call screen this way, you'll need to enter your passcode first to reactivate Touch ID. You probably won't need this feature in normal situations, but it's more of a security issue where in certain situations you might worry that someone will force you to unlock your device just through your fingerprint.

Such cases concern, for example, border controls that may take place not only in the United States, or security forces that may want to access your sensitive data for some reason.

So iOS 11 will bring a very simple way to temporarily disable Touch ID. Until now, this required a restart of the iPhone or a wrongly entered fingerprint several times, or waiting a few days before the device itself asks for a password, but this is practically unusable.

It can be expected that if the new iPhone offers unlocking via a face scan instead of Touch ID, it will be possible to deactivate this so-called Face ID in a similar way. In some cases, it can end up being useful even during normal operation, when, for example, the iPhone does not want to recognize a fingerprint or a face.
