Another week is successfully behind us and we are currently in the 33rd week of 2020. For today, too, we have prepared a classic IT summary for you, in which we focus on everything that happened in the IT world during the last day. Today we take a look at another possible ban in the US that is expected to affect the WeChat app, then we look at the update to the Google Maps app that finally offers support for the Apple Watch. Finally, we take a look at the details of the upcoming feature for WhatsApp. Let's get straight to the point.

WeChat may be banned from the App Store

Lately, the IT world has been talking about nothing but a potential ban on TikTok in the United States. ByteDance, the company behind the TikTok app, is accused in several states of espionage and unauthorized collection of user data. The application has already been banned in India, the ban is still being "processed" in the US and there is still a possibility that it will not happen, i.e. if part of it is bought by Microsoft or another American company, which guarantees that espionage and data collection will no longer occur. It looks like the United States government has gone easy on app bans. There is also a possible ban on the WeChat chat application in the App Store. The WeChat application is one of the most popular chat applications (not only) in China - it is used by over 1,2 billion users worldwide. This whole idea of a ban comes, of course, from the President of the USA, Donald Trump. The latter plans to ban all transactions between the US and the Chinese companies ByteDance (TikTok) and Tencet (WeChat).

Immediately after this information about the possible transaction ban was announced, various analytical calculations of how banning WeChat would change the market appeared on the Internet. Well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also came up with one analysis. He states that in the worst-case scenario, if WeChat is banned from the App Store worldwide, there could be up to a 30% drop in Apple phone sales in China, followed by a 25% drop globally. If the ban on WeChat in the App Store were to apply only in the US, there could be a 6% drop in iPhone sales, while sales of other Apple devices should then see a maximum drop of 3%. In June 2020, 15% of all iPhones sold were sold in China. Kuo recommends all investors to sell some of the shares of Apple and companies that are linked and related to Apple, such as LG Innotek or Genius Electronic Optical.

Google Maps is getting full support for Apple Watch

If you own an Apple Watch and at least travel from time to time, you certainly haven't missed the interesting function offered by Maps from Apple. If you set up navigation within this application and start Maps on the Apple Watch, you can view all navigation information on the Apple Watch display. For a long time, this feature was only available within Apple's Maps, and no other navigation app simply did it. However, this has finally changed as part of the latest Google Maps update. As part of this update, Apple Watch users are finally getting the option to have navigation instructions displayed on the Apple Watch display. In addition to the vehicle, Google Maps can also display directions for pedestrians, cyclists, and more on the Apple Watch. As part of this update, we also saw improvements to the CarPlay version of the Google Maps application. It now offers the option to display the application on the home screen (dashboard), along with music control and other elements.

WhatsApp will see multi-device support next year

It's been a few weeks since we informed you that WhatsApp is starting to test a new feature that will allow you to use it on multiple devices. Currently, WhatsApp can only be used on one phone within one phone number. If you sign in to WhatsApp on another device, the sign-in will be canceled on the original device. Some of you might object that there is an option to work with WhatsApp, in addition to the phone, also on a computer or Mac, within the application or web interface. Yes, but in this case you need to always have your smartphone on which you have WhatsApp registered close by. WhatsApp has started testing the possibility of using it on multiple devices on Android, and according to the latest information, this is a function that the general public will also see after all the fine-tuning. Specifically, the release of an update with support for use on multiple devices should happen sometime next year, but the exact date is not yet known.
