YouTube has officially announced that it will enrich its application - both in the iOS and Android versions - with new controls. You can find them both on the home page of the application and in the "Next in order" section under the currently playing video. Both new features are intended to help users eliminate viewing content they don't want to see, while also helping to show content they want more often.

Owners of iPhones and iPads will be the first to see the changes, gradually the news will also reach Android. Browsing content, finding new topics and recommended videos to watch will be even more based on viewing history thanks to the new features, so users can get to content that matches their tastes and interests faster and easier.

If you click on the three dots symbol on the right side of any video on the YouTube home page, a menu will open where you will find a new item that allows you to unrecommend that channel. The feature will first be available to users who use YouTube in English, then it will be expanded to other languages. It will also be available later on YouTube.

Other new features include, for example, displaying information about why YouTube is offering you a particular video - usually this is done on the basis that viewers of one of the YouTube channels you subscribe to often watch it. Based on this, you will be able to decide whether you want to block content from being offered, or whether you want to watch it.

So, if you've been wondering about YouTube's algorithm until now and didn't understand why it offers you sometimes bizarre content to watch, know that soon you'll be able to not only understand YouTube's "behavior", but also to some extent influence it.
