A very interesting internal document appeared on the Internet over the weekend. It was shared by Business Insider, who got it from an Apple employee. This is the so-called "Visual/Mechanical Inspection Guide (VMI) and it is a guide for technicians and authorized repairers, according to which they can evaluate the condition of the products being repaired, and accordingly decide whether the damaged device is covered by warranty/post-warranty repair or exchange, or the owner is unlucky.

According to information from the above-mentioned employee who provided the BI document, Apple is said to have similar instructions for all products sold. Only a few images from the originally 22-page document made it to the Internet. The date of March 3, 2017 is marked on the document, so this is the current information that the technicians are following and in this particular case it concerns the iPhone 6, 6S and 7.

The instructions are said to serve primarily for visual evaluation of the damaged product and for estimating the financial cost of the repair. With the help of this manual, the technicians try to divide the devices that are still covered by service services and those that are not. According to a source inside Apple, technicians work with VMI only occasionally. It is definitely not the case that every damaged product is evaluated according to this document. On the contrary, he returns to it only in special and not very clear cases. You can see what this document looks like in the images below. More information has not reached the website, but it can be expected that the complete version will reach the Internet in the next few days.
