The upcoming AirPods 3 have been a hot topic lately, and iOS 13.2 plays a major role in this. The first beta version of the system, which is currently in the testing phase, viz revealed the approximate shape of the headphones. But the leaks continue, and yesterday's iOS 13.2 beta 2 showed how the activation of the noise cancellation function, which the third generation of AirPods is supposed to offer as one of the main novelties, will take place.

Active Ambient Noise Cancellation (ANC) is one feature the AirPods lack. Its presence will come in handy when traveling by means of public transport, especially in an airplane. The feature also protects the user's hearing, as it eliminates the need to turn up the volume excessively in busy environments, which is one of the main reasons why in recent years headphone owners have had hearing problems and sought professional help (see article below).

In the case of AirPods 3, the active noise cancellation function will be turned on directly in the Control Center on iPhone and iPad, specifically after clicking the volume indicator using 3D Touch / Haptic Touch. The fact is confirmed by a short instructional video found in the codes of the second beta of iOS 13.2, which clearly shows the owners of the new headphones how to activate ANC. By the way, the function is also turned on in a similar way on the Studio 3 headphones from Beats.

In addition to the active noise cancellation function, the third generation of AirPods should also offer water resistance. Sportsmen will especially welcome this, but it will come in handy for anyone who is reluctant to use headphones in rainy weather, for example. However, it cannot be expected that AirPods 3 would meet such a certification that would allow them to be used, for example, while swimming.

The news mentioned above will most likely make its mark on the final design of the AirPods. According to the leaked icon from iOS 13.2 beta 1, the headphones will have earplugs - which are practically necessary for ANC to work properly. The body of the headphones will also change to some extent, which will probably be slightly larger. On the contrary, the foot hiding the battery, microphone and other components should be shorter. You can see the approximate appearance of AirPods 3 in the renders in the gallery below.

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the new AirPods should arrive at the end of this year or early next year. So either they will have their premiere this month, at the expected October conference, or at the spring Keynote alongside of the upcoming iPhone SE 2. The first option seems more likely, especially given the increasing indications of iOS 13.2, which will probably be released for ordinary users in November.
