Another week is successfully behind us and two days off in the form of a weekend. Even before you go to bed, you can read our traditional Apple roundup, in which we cover everything related to the Apple company. Today we're going to take a look at the storage (not) upgradeability of the newly released 27″ iMac (2020) and a possible production issue for the upcoming iPhone 12. So let's get straight to the point.

The storage of the new 27″ iMac (2020) is not user upgradeable

If you are interested in the hardware of Apple computers, then you surely know that these days you cannot manually improve the storage and RAM memories, that is, with exceptions. A few years ago, for example, you could remove the bottom cover on MacBooks and simply upgrade the SSD drive and possibly add RAM memory - neither of these upgrades can be done on MacBooks anymore, as everything is "hard" soldered to the motherboard. As for iMacs, in the 27″ version we have a “door” on the back, with which it is possible to add or replace RAM – at least Apple is to be praised for this. The smaller, updated 21.5″ model should also get these doors, but this has not yet been confirmed. For older iMac models, i.e. from 2019 and older, it is even possible to replace the drive. However, for the latest 27″ iMac (2020), Apple has unfortunately decided to disable the storage upgrade option, as it soldered the drive to the motherboard. This has already been reported by several sources, including authorized services, and in a few days this will be confirmed by the well-known iFixit, which will disassemble the new 27″ iMac (2020) just like all other Apple products.

So if you are going to buy a basic configuration with low storage and low RAM, following the example of older iMacs, you should take the above information into account. You will be able to replace the RAM on the 27″ iMac (2020), but unfortunately you are out of luck when it comes to storage. Of course, users do not like these practices of the Californian giant, which is understandable on the one hand, but on the other hand, from Apple's position, it is necessary to prevent possible damage to the device by unprofessional service, and then an unauthorized claim. In the event that the motherboard of the new 27″ iMac (2020) is damaged, the user will lose all their data during a claim. Because of this, Apple recommends regularly backing up all data to prevent data loss. So Apple has thought it through really well and it can be argued that this is why they are forcing you to buy an iCloud plan. With the free plan, you can back up only 5 GB of data, which is a few photos and videos these days.

Apple is having trouble making the iPhone 12

Let's face it, 2020 is definitely not a year we'll remember fondly. Since the very beginning of the year, incredible things are happening that mark the whole world. At the moment, the world has been most affected by the coronavirus pandemic, which continues for the time being and is not abating. Due to this serious situation, certain measures have been put in place variously around the world. Of course, these measures also affected Apple, which, for example, had to hold the WWDC20 conference only online and present the new iPhone SE (2020) to the world through an ordinary press release and not in the least bit "spectacular".

As for the upcoming flagships, for the time being everything indicates that their presentation in September/October should not stand in the way, in any case, it can be seen that they are catching up as much as possible. In the first half of the year, the coronavirus shut down countless different companies that were working on the production of components for the upcoming iPhones, and it seems that the complications just keep piling up. Currently, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Genius Electronic Optical is having problems with the production of wide-angle cameras for the iPhone 12. Fortunately, the said company is only one of the two companies that handles the production of the cameras - the other is fulfilling the plans without problems. Even so, this is a big blow, which could be reflected in the availability of iPhone 12 after their introduction.
