We learn on the iPad: English words with pictures

There will come a time in a child's life when it is necessary to start learning a foreign language. I know from my own experience that the sooner a child begins to learn a language other than his mother tongue, the easier his life will be. The basics of English, or vocabulary, can be learned playfully with the application English words with pictures.

Last week we imagined the app Czech learning cards and since it is the same publisher, the English words (or flashcards, if you prefer) also work on the same principle. The database of the application contains over 500 English words, which are divided into a total of 30 categories such as food, animals, human body, kitchen, clothes, city or sport.

You can learn new English words in two ways. In mode Browse you can browse all images in that category. An image is always displayed and above it an English and Czech description, the English one including the Czech phonetic transcription. English and Czech words are spoken by native speakers, so the child immediately hears how the given word is pronounced. By clicking on the expression next to which there is a Czech or British flag, you can have the expression read again.

After the first encounter with new words, he can switch to the mode Get to know, which always offers six images from which to choose the correct one, i.e. the one whose name is written in the upper frame. It contains only the English word, including the transcription, and is again spoken by a native speaker. The child will not move on until he taps the correct picture. As a motivation, there is again a snail in the lower part, the goal of which is to go from the left side of the display to the right. For each word correctly guessed the first time, it moves a bit.

As with the previously reviewed app, English Vocabulary with Pictures is not free. For 3,59 euros you can unlock all circuits, you only get five for free. The app is universal and you can run it on both iPhone and iPad.
