Walking down the street with headphones on has never been my thing. Massive headphones never fit on my head and sometimes I felt like Otík from the legendary Czech film The village has a center. This is a purely subjective feeling, and some people prefer headphones, but I only recently got my hands on a model that I didn't feel so out of place with.

I mean the new product from the Swedish innovators Jays. Until now, they were mainly known for their earphones. For example, the high-end q-Jays model was a big hit. The latest addition to this company's range is the u-Jays over-ear headphones. They could be characterized as small, elegant and powerful mid-range headphones, which you probably won't be ashamed of outdoors.

The headphones impress at first glance with their matte design. Although their surface consists of artificial materials in a combination of plastic and silicone, it feels very pleasant and clean to the touch. The Swedes base themselves on a simple design, with which the easily removable, screw-on earcups correspond. This was the first time I came across this system of putting on the earcups and I was pleasantly surprised, the earcups are also pleasantly padded with leatherette and the headphones do not press even when used for a long time.

Both earcups are connected by a occipital bridge, which is made of a solid piece of metal. The mentioned silicone is on the surface and there are adjustable sliders inside, so the headphones fit any head size. The u-Jays headphones weigh 224 grams and were very comfortable on my ears, and the earcups isolated the surrounding noise very well.

I also found the detachable cable to be handy, which has a silver-plated 3,5mm jack on both ends. There is no risk of breakage or damage, and the entire cable is reinforced with Kevlar fibers. The control panel on it works with either iOS, Android or Windows, and you can use it to control volume, switch songs and answer calls in the traditional way.

Another interesting thing about Jays headphones is that the company develops its own speakers. The forty-millimeter membrane is made of Japanese silk and around it there are smaller cross-sections with filters that regulate the air flow from the closed earcups. In terms of performance, the u-Jays are not doing badly at all. They boast an impedance of 32 ohms and a relatively decent sensitivity of 100 dB with a frequency range from 10 to 20 Hz.

As with all headphones, sound plays a major role in the u-Jays. With headphones costing over five thousand, the listener already expects the most faithful and balanced presentation possible, and in the end they really offered me a very well-balanced, clear and precise sound, but it wasn't like they amazed me right away. But I gave u-Jays time and it was worth it.

In the end, it was not a problem to play more serious and film music or sharper rock and pop, u-Jays could handle everything. The mids are even comparable to large domestic models such as the Sennheiser Momentum OnEar. The sound is also very rich and, considering the price category, it cannot be faulted too much.

What bothered me a little is the absence of left and right earpiece markings. With u-Jays, I ended up orienting myself according to the control panel, which I tried to have on my right hand. Otherwise, the headphones are very durable and are designed so that you are not afraid to go out on the town with them.

When I compared the u-Jays to the competition, I found that they played very similar to my older Beats Solo HD 2. They were also more comfortable against this model for longer periods of time as they didn't push as much over my ears and glasses legs, which was a positive.

In general, most headphones in a similar price range – You can buy uJays at Audigo.cz for 5 crowns – they play very similarly and decide the details, such as design, comfort or small gadgets that make listening more pleasant. When you connect headphones for five or six thousand to an iPhone or Mac, it is usually hard to tell the essential differences, only high-quality equipment and an amplifier will reveal them. The u-Jays especially scored for me with their minimalist presentation, which is not the rule for headphones. That's why I wasn't afraid to go out in the city with them, even for a longer period of time, because the very comfortable earbuds don't put too much pressure on the earlobe.

Thank you for borrowing the product Audigo.cz.
