Since the weekend or so, Apple TV users have been complaining about some purchased/rented 4K images disappearing from their library and being replaced by the original Full HD versions. This phenomenon happens in several dozens of images and it seems that it is a mistake, the correction of which has been worked on for several hours.

At first it looked like this was a problem that only affected Warner Bros. films. Later, however, it turned out that the "downgrade" of quality also occurred in images from other film studios. Among others, the following films lost their 4K versions:

  • 22 Jump Street (2014)
  • About Last Night
  • Hello (2015)
  • American Sniper
  • Anna (2014)
  • Batman vs. Superman
  • The Brothers Grimsby (2016)
  • The Equalizer (2014)
  • Fast & Furious 6 (2013)
  • Ghostbusters II (1989)
  • Goose bumps (2015)
  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 (2011)
  • Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)
  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 (2010)
  • Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)
  • Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)
  • Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007)
  • Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001)
  • Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)
  • Hercules (2014)
  • Hitch (2005)
  • Deluxe Hotel (2013)
  • Matrix Reloaded
  • The Matrix Revolutions (2003)
  • risen (2016)
  • Space Balls (1987)
  • Taxi Driver (1976)
  • Unforgiven (1993)
  • The Walk (2015)
  • X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014)

Owners of the above images (the list of which is constantly changing, some films are already "fixed", others have not yet been found) lost the 4K version, which was replaced by a lower quality FHD version, regardless of whether it was a rental or for a purchased image.

According to the latest statements from Apple representatives, it was an error in the internal system of the iTunes library and everything is currently being resolved. The fix shouldn't take too long, within the next few hours the affected 4K versions of the movies should be available again.
