In recent years, electronics manufacturers have realized the power of refresh rates when it comes to displays. While 60Hz displays were the standard not long ago, now you can even come across pieces with 240Hz. The mentioned refresh rate specifically indicates how many times an image can be rendered in one second. Logically, the higher this value is, the faster the resulting image is. Apple's offer includes two products equipped with a so-called ProMotion display with a 120Hz refresh rate.

Why is a 120Hz display worth it?

As we mentioned above, a display with a higher refresh rate is noticeably more vibrant. You can immediately notice this, for example, when moving windows or animations, but the biggest differences can be observed when rendering action content. Undoubtedly, the best example in this direction are the so-called FPS games. According to research from Nvidia, the company behind popular graphics cards, there is even a correlation between using a screen with a higher refresh rate and better gaming performance. It is games that look significantly better on such displays, and the enjoyment of playing itself increases.

Apple named its 120Hz displays as ProMotion, which immediately points to the capabilities of the screen. First, we could see it already in 2017 with the iPad Pro, and this time, after a long wait, the latest iPhones also arrived. But there is a catch. The ProMotion display is limited to the iPhone 13 Pro (Max), so owners of the standard model or the mini version will simply not enjoy its benefits. Even so, we can be glad that we waited. At the same time, there is nothing left but to hope that in the coming years, even cheaper phones from the workshop of the Cupertino giant will receive ProMotion displays.

Games with ProMotion display support

In short, displays with a higher refresh rate offer more beautiful animations, faster scrolling and noticeably better rendering of games. But there is one catch. Unfortunately, not every title is optimized and thus cannot take advantage of the possibilities that the ProMotion display brings. Nevertheless, there are quite a few popular games in the App Store that offer this support and at the same time can keep you entertained for long hours. So let's take a look at popular titles that can be enjoyed in 120 Hz.

Call of Duty: Mobile

We probably don't even need to introduce the popular Call of Duty game series. This is the so-called genre of FPS, or first-person shooter. Call of Duty: Mobile is available for iPhones and iPads, where you can fight real opponents in various game modes, or play your favorite battle royale. Of course, there is also the possibility of playing with friends and the popular zombie mode.

Pascal's Wager

The popular RPG Pascal's Wager has also recently received 120 Hz support in the case of the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max. In this title, you will visit a dangerous fantasy world where you and your hero will have to survive. At the same time, a lot of different tasks, fights and a first-class story await you, which can keep you glued to the screen for long hours.

Asphalt 9

Of course, we must not forget the lovers of racing games. They can also enjoy the popular game Asphalt 9 perfectly on their iPhones with a ProMotion display, in which they take on the role of a driver and go on various tracks. Of course, the goal in this title is to reach the destination first, or to complete various tasks in other game modes. But it's always about one thing - to be the fastest and most accurate.

Games supporting 120Hz display

In the end, we will state list of games, which support a 120Hz ProMotion display. However, we must not forget one important piece of information. For some games, the option to play at 120 frames per second may not be active, while on the other hand, the title may be limited (for performance reasons, for example) to 60 frames per second. For this reason, it is better to look in the settings and possibly switch the option.
