There are new and new news about the Apple TV+ streaming service every now and then. So that you don't miss any of them, but also so that you are not overwhelmed with news of this type every day, we will bring you a summary of everything that has happened in this area in the past days and weeks.

Real vs. "gratis" subscribers

A relative unknown for Apple TV+ is the number of paying subscribers. Analysts estimate the number of users as such at 33,6 million. The company did not provide any further details during the last announcement of its financial results, but according to the words of its representatives, it was very pleasantly surprised by the interest. The websites of The Hollywood Reporter and Variety talk about the influx of millions of followers during the first three days. This number is quite easy to believe, but it is necessary to take into account that a significant part of this number is made up of users who have activated the annual free use of this service as a bonus to one of the newly purchased products from Apple.

Documentary about the Beastie Boys

Among other things, a documentary film about the cult band Beastie Boys should appear in the Apple TV+ menu in the future. The film will premiere in IMAX theaters on April 3, and then head to Apple TV+ streaming service subscribers on April 24. According to its creators, the film tells about the forty-year friendship and cooperation of the band members. The production of the film was undertaken by the group's long-time friend Spike Jonez, who, in his words, considers the opportunity to shoot this documentary an immense honor.

Podcasts about Apple TV+

According to recent reports, Apple is considering launching its own podcast, focused on series and movies on the Apple TV+ menu. Podcasts should primarily be used to promote the content of Apple's streaming service. The Cupertino company has decided to take a different approach to publishing content on Apple TV+ than, for example, Netflix or the new Disney+. So far, the range of shows is rather meager, and Apple prefers to gradually release individual parts of its series. However, they have been met with a mostly positive response so far, and The Morning Show has already received several nominations and one award.

Boys State Documentary

The documentary Boys State, which earned a standing ovation at the Sundance Film Festival, is likely to head to Apple TV+ as well. The politically charged film caused enthusiasm in Apple as well, and the company decided to buy the broadcasting rights. The documentary tells about an unconventional experiment in which a thousand seventeen-year-old boys from Texas came together to create a model government. But things didn't go as smoothly as expected, and the government had to contend with all the scandals and dramas that even real government officials face.

 New reinforcements

Apple invests in its streaming service not only on the programming side, but also on the technical side. Ruslan Meshenberg, one of Netflix's leading engineers, has recently joined the Apple TV+ technical team. By hiring experienced professionals, Apple wants to make sure that its services will not face any technical problems. Meshenberg, who was in charge of creating a faster, more consistent service at Netflix, joined Apple this week. Richard Plepler also recently signed a five-year contract with Apple. If that name sounds familiar, he's a former HBO executive.

NFL Sunday Ticket

According to recent reports, it looks like Apple is trying to expand the variety of content on its Apple TV+ service. In the future, NFL Sunday Ticket could also be added to its offer - a platform that provides live broadcasts of sports matches. The NFL Sunday Ticket broadcast rights are currently held by DirecTV, but the deal expires this year. Tim Cook and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell have been rumored for a long time to be in talks. The question is whether, if implemented, Apple will provide access to live streams of this type to users in all regions.

Physical series

Apple is also reportedly in talks to buy new series Physical for its streaming service. The story of the series takes place in the eighties in Southern California, and its central theme is aerobics, which was a real phenomenon at the time. Rose Byrne should appear in the main role of the series, produced by Annie Weisman and Alexandra Cunningham. The series was created under the wings of Fabrication and Tomorrow Studios, but Apple has not yet officially confirmed its purchase.

Musical comedy with Cecily Strong

Other reports talk about alleged preparations to sign a contract with the creators of the popular anime "I, the villain". They should produce a musical comedy starring Cecily Strong for the Apple TV+ service. Cinco Paulo and Ken Dauria's comedy does not yet have an official title, but according to Variety magazine, its plot should take place in a magical town called Schmigadoon. A married couple who originally wanted to solve their crisis through a vacation also find themselves in it, more or less by chance. The only way to get out of a town where everyone acts like a protagonist from a 1940s musical is true love.
