The largest international media organization, the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA), announced the winners of the European Digital Media Awards 2014 yesterday, and in the category Best in Tablet Publishing, the weekly Dotyk from the Czech publishing house Tablet Media won.

Dotyk editor-in-chief Eva Hanáková and Tablet Media chief Michal Klíma

The competition was attended by 107 projects submitted by 48 publishing houses from 21 European countries, which is the most in the history of the competition. Among the winners of other categories are important media such as the BBC and the Guardian. The best projects were selected by an international jury consisting of 11 experts from publishing houses, consulting firms, universities and other institutions from Europe and the United States.

"The brilliance and impact of these winning projects is inspiring for the entire media industry," Vincent Peyrègne, CEO of WAN-IFRA praised the winning projects, referring to the first purely tablet weekly in the Czech Republic, which succeeded despite great competition.

"Becoming the best tablet magazine in Europe is a great achievement and commitment for us," Dotyk editor-in-chief Eva Hanáková said about the award. "When we started publishing Dotyk, we bet on quality content combined with modern technology. As you can see, it pays off. Behind the victory is the great work of the entire team. We are very proud to have won the award, after all, we haven't even been on the market for a whole year yet."

"The award confirms that even in the media, professionalism is decisive. Success does not require large investments, but especially experienced people, good journalists and experts. The European award is an unexpected success, I don't remember any Czech media ever winning in such strong international competition. It is an encouragement for us to further develop Tablet Media," commented Michal Klíma on the award.

In the category in which Dotyk won, the jury evaluated 12 projects. Last year, the renowned Swedish daily Dagens Nyheter won first place in the same category.

The European Digital Media Prize competition is the most prestigious competition in the field. It serves to enable publishers to compare their titles in the digital domain. Innovative publishers from all over Europe submit their best digital projects to the competition to see how they fare against fierce international competition.
