In this summary article, we recall the most important events that took place in the IT world over the past 7 days.

Tesla plans to build a new factory in Texas, most likely in Austin

In recent weeks, the head of Tesla, Elon Musk, has repeatedly (publicly) lashed out at officials in Alameda County, California, who have banned the automaker from restarting production, despite the gradual easing of safety measures in connection with the coronavirus pandemic. As part of this shootout (which also took place in a big way on Twitter), Musk threatened several times that Tesla could easily withdraw from California to states that offer him far more favorable conditions for doing business. Now it seems that this plan was not just an empty threat, but is very close to actual implementation. As reported by the Electrek server, Tesla apparently really chose Texas, or metropolitan area around Austin.

According to foreign information, it has not yet been determined exactly where Tesla's new factory will eventually be built. According to sources familiar with the progress of the negotiations, Musk wants to start building the new factory as soon as possible, with the fact that its completion should be by the end of this year at the latest. By then, the first finished Model Ys to be assembled in this complex should leave the factory. For the Tesla car company, this would be another large construction that will be implemented this year. Since last year, the automaker has been building a new production hall near Berlin, with the cost of building it estimated to be in excess of $4 billion. A factory in Austin would certainly not be cheaper. However, other American media came up with information that Musk is considering some other locations around the city of Tulsa, in Oklahoma. However, Elon Musk himself is more commercially tied to Texas, where SpaceX is based, for example, so this option is more likely to be considered.

YouTube automatically deletes comments that criticize China and its regime

Chinese YouTube users are warning that the platform is automatically censoring some passwords in comments under videos. According to Chinese users, there are quite a large number of different words and passwords that disappear from YouTube almost immediately after they are written, which means that behind the deletion of comments there is some automated system that actively searches for "inconvenient" passwords. The slogans and expressions that YouTube deletes usually relate to the Chinese Communist Party, certain "objectionable" historical events, or colloquialisms that denigrate the practices or institutions of the state apparatus.

When testing whether this erasure actually occurs, The Epoch Times editors found that selected passwords did indeed disappear after about 20 seconds of being typed. Google, which runs YouTube, has been accused several times in the past of being overly servile to the Chinese regime. For example, the company has been accused in the past of working with the Chinese regime to develop a special search tool that was heavily censored and could not find anything the Chinese regime did not want. In 2018, it was also reported that Google is working closely on an AI research project with a Chinese university that conducts research work for the military. Global companies that operate in China (be it Google, Apple or many others) and invest massively usually don't have much of a choice. Either they submit to the regime or they can say goodbye to the Chinese market. And this is completely unacceptable for most of them, despite the often (and hypocritically) declared moral principles.

The remaster of Mafia II and III has been released and more information about the first part has been released

It would probably be difficult to find a more famous domestic title than the first Mafia in the Czech meadows and groves. Two weeks ago there was a surprise announcement that a remake of all three installments was on the way, and today was the day that the Definitive Editions of Mafia II and III hit stores, both on PC and consoles. Along with that, studio 2K, which has the rights to Mafia, announced more information about the upcoming remake of the first part. This is because, unlike the two and three, it will receive far more extensive modifications.

In today's press release, the modernized Czech dubbing, newly recorded scenes, animations, dialogues and completely new playable parts, including several new game mechanics, were confirmed. Players will get, for example, the opportunity to drive motorcycles, mini-games in the form of new collectibles, and the city of New Heaven itself will also get an expansion. The redesigned title will offer support for 4K resolution and HDR. Czech developers from the Prague and Brno branches of the studio Hangar 13 participated in the remake. The remake of the first part is scheduled for August 28.

Joe Rogan quits YouTube and moves to Spotify

If you're even remotely interested in podcasts, you've probably heard the name Joe Rogan before. He is currently the host and author of the most popular podcast in the world - The Joe Rogan Experience. Over the years of operation, he has invited hundreds of guests to his podcast (almost 1500 episodes), from people from the entertainment/stand-up industry, to martial arts experts (including Rogan himself), celebrities of all kinds, actors, scientists, experts in everything possible and many other interesting or well-known personalities. His less popular podcasts have tens of millions of views on YouTube, and short clips from individual podcasts that also appear on YouTube have millions of views. But that is over now. Joe Rogan announced on his Instagram/Twitter/YouTube last night that he has signed a multi-year exclusive deal with Spotify and his podcasts (including video) will only appear there again. Until the end of this year, they will also appear on YouTube, but from around January 1st (or generally around the end of this year), however, all new podcasts will be exclusively on Spotify only, with the fact that only the previously mentioned short (and selected ) clips. In the podcast world, this is a relatively big thing that surprised a lot of people, also because Rogan himself criticized various podcast exclusivities in the past (including Spotify) and claimed that podcasts as such should be completely free, unencumbered by the exclusivity of any particular platform. Spotify is rumored to have offered Rogan over $100 million for this extraordinary deal. For such an amount, the ideals are probably already going by the wayside. Anyway, if you listen to JRE on YouTube (or any other podcast client), enjoy the last half year of "free availability". From January only through Spotify.

Intel has started selling new Comet Lake desktop processors

In recent weeks, it's been one new hardware innovation after another. Today saw the expiration of the NDA and the official launch of Intel's long-awaited 10th generation Core architecture desktop processors. They had been waiting for some Friday, just as it was roughly known what Intel would come up with in the end. More or less all expectations were fulfilled. The new processors are powerful and at the same time relatively expensive. They require new (more expensive) motherboards and, in many cases, much stronger cooling than previous generations (especially in cases where users will push the new chips to the limits of their performance limits). It is also still about processors made by the 14nm (albeit for the umpteenth time modernized) production process - and their performance, or operational characteristics show it (see review). The 10th generation processors will offer a wide range of chips, from the cheapest i3 (which are now in 4C/8T configuration) to the top i9 models (10C/20T). Some specific processors are already listed and available through some Czech e-shops (for example, Alza here). The same applies to new motherboards with Intel 1200 socket. The cheapest chip available so far is the i5 10400F model (6C/12T, F = absence of iGPU) for 5 thousand crowns. The top model i9 10900K (10C/20T) then costs 16 crowns. The first reviews are also available on the website, and they are classic written, So i video review from various foreign tech-YouTubers.

The researchers tested an Internet connection with a speed of 44,2 Tb/s

A team of Australian researchers from several universities has tested a new technology in practice, thanks to which it should be possible to achieve dizzying Internet speeds, even within the existing (albeit optical) infrastructure. These are completely unique photonic chips that take care of processing and sending data through an optical data network. The most interesting thing about this new technology is probably that it was successfully tested in normal conditions, not just in the closed and very specific environment of testing laboratories.

The researchers tested their project in practice, specifically on an optical data link between the university campuses in Melbourne and Clayton. On this route, which measures over 76 kilometers, the researchers managed to achieve a transmission speed of 44,2 Terabits per second. Thanks to the fact that this technology can use already built infrastructures, its deployment in practice should be relatively fast. From the beginning, it will logically be a very expensive solution that only data centers and other similar entities will be able to afford. However, these technologies should be gradually expanded, so they should also be used by ordinary Internet users.
