The past week has been another in the spirit of the Wuhan coronavirus. It received a brand new designation of Covid-19 and spread to practically all continents of the world, most recently to Africa. The number of cases rose to 67, of which 096 were fatal. Fears about the spread of the virus are justified, and because of it, measures and decisions are being taken that would not have happened otherwise.

MWC 2020

The first big announcement this week was that this year's Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona is being cancelled. The largest exhibition of mobile technology, which many manufacturers use to announce new products and which annually accommodates tens of thousands of visitors, will not take place this year. The reason for this is precisely the fear of the spread of the virus and the fact that many manufacturers who originally planned to participate in the event do not participate in it in the end. There is also a good chance that many people could skip this year's fair due to health concerns.

Samsung usually also participates in MWC, it presented its new products this year at its own event

The fact that one of the world's largest technology fairs will not take place this year may also indicate what may happen to other major events as well. Fashion brand Bvlgari is the first to announce that it will not participate in Baselworld this year precisely because of Covid-19. There is talk of postponing or canceling the Beijing auto show, but there is no indication that the Geneva one will be cancelled. The organizers said that they monitor the situation carefully, but for now they are counting on holding the fair. This year's Grand Prix of China, which was supposed to precede the first Vietnam GP, was also postponed.

Entry to the Apple Store only after a tour

Apple opened five stores in Beijing earlier this week after temporarily closing them in late January. Shops have reduced opening hours from 11:00 to 18:00, while they are usually open from 10:00 to 22:00. However, the reduced time is not the only measure that the stores have undergone. Visitors must wear masks and undergo a quick screening upon entry, where officers will take your body temperature. The same applies to employees.

How does Foxconn fight the virus?

Foxconn really has a lot to do not only in terms of fulfilling orders for its clients (Apple), but also in terms of fighting against Covid-19. One of the largest factories of the company has an area of 250 football fields and 100 employees work on this area every day. So the company has to implement really big measures, which the Chinese government is also behind to a large extent.

As stated by the server Nikkei Asian Review, the government requires factories to quarantine employees with suspected health conditions, provide disinfectants and masks for two weeks in advance, and equip their factories with various sensors. Foxconn managed to open one of the factories where iPhones are assembled. This factory was equipped with infrared thermometers and also opened a special line for the production of masks. This line is expected to be able to produce 2 million masks every day.

Foxconn has also released an app for employees to alert them if they come close to an infected site. Lunch breaks will be arranged in such a way that there are no excessive clashes between staff. If employees want to meet in their free time, it is recommended that they stay at least 1 meter apart and be near open windows.
