Various fines are not unusual in connection with Apple's business. In the course of the past week, Apple had to pay a rather hefty fine to the Russian company Kaspersky Labs. In addition to it, today's summary of news that appeared in connection with Apple during the past week will talk about the rising prices for post-warranty battery replacements for Apple devices or the new trend of unusual thefts of AirPods Max headphones.

Apple and the fine to Russia

Apple had to pay a fine exceeding twelve million dollars to Russia at the end of the week. The whole matter started already three years ago, when Kaspersky Labs' application called Safe Kids was rejected from the App Store, due to an alleged violation of the App Store's internal regulations. The Federal Antitrust Service concluded that Apple violated antitrust principles in this case. Apple paid the fine, but remains in the crosshairs of antitrust activists. The thorn in the side is that developers who place their applications in the App Store cannot charge for subscriptions or in-app purchases other than through Apple's payment systems.

Apple raises prices for post-warranty battery replacements

Over the past week, Apple has increased the price of post-warranty battery replacements, not only for its iPhones, but also for iPads and Macs. With the arrival of the iPhone 14 series last September, the price for an out-of-warranty battery replacement rose from $69 to $99, and now it has also increased for older devices. "Effective March 1, 2023, post-warranty battery service will increase by $20 for all iPhones older than the iPhone 14," says Apple in a related press release. Battery replacement for iPhones with a Home Button will now cost $69 instead of the original $49. The price of replacing a MacBook Air battery has increased by $30, and a post-warranty iPad battery replacement will range from $1 to $99 starting March 199, depending on the specific model.

Theft of AirPods Max

Apple's AirPods Max wireless headphones are really not among the cheapest. It is therefore not surprising that, in addition to users, they also attract thieves. During the past week, the police in New York issued a warning about thieves who steal AirPods Max in a really dangerous way - they tear them right off the heads of their wearers right on the street. According to the police, criminals on a moped will suddenly come to an unsuspecting passerby with headphones on, pull the headphones off his head and drive away. The New York Police Department also released footage of the perpetrators, who reportedly committed this type of theft more than twenty-one times between January 28 and February 18.
