Carousel will offer to free up memory by deleting backup photos (9/12)

Carousel is Dropbox's photo backup and management app. Its latest update will bring a feature that will monitor the amount of free space in the device's memory. If space is low, Carousel will offer the user to delete those photos from the phone's gallery that have already been backed up on Dropbox's servers. This offer will appear either in the form of a push notification or in the application settings.

The second new feature is “Flashback”. This consists in regularly reminding interesting moments of the user's life by offering older photos for viewing.

The update hasn't hit the App Store yet, but it has been announced and should be rolling out in the next few days.

Microsoft announced another acquisition this week. This time, the Redmond-based corporation has absorbed HockeyApp from Stuttgart, Germany, which is behind the eponymous tool for distributing beta versions of iOS applications and reporting bugs in them.

Apple reversed the original decision, Transmit can once again upload files to iCloud Drive (December 11)

The update came out on Saturday of the previous week Transmit, an application for managing files in the cloud and on FTP servers, removing the ability to upload files to iCloud Drive. The developer was asked by Apple's responsible team to remove this function, according to which Transmit violated the rules of the App Store. According to the regulation, applications can only upload files created in Apple's cloud, which exceeded the functionality of Transmit.

But on Wednesday of this week, Apple took back its order and the inclusion of this feature in Transmit was allowed again. The next day, an update was released that restored this feature again. So the transmit is now fully functional again.

The new Workflow app is Automator for iOS

Automator is a useful application that comes as part of the software package of every Mac. It is used to create files of instructions so that the user does not have to repeat the same actions over and over, but let the computer do it for him with one click. Examples of such actions include mass sorting, moving and renaming files, repeated complex photo editing, creating calendar events with one click, searching for a certain type of information in text files and creating new ones from the results, creating playlists in iTunes, etc.

Workflow works similarly, but it is a solution that fully utilizes the potential and limitations of the iOS mobile operating system. The application's splash screen provides the user with examples of instruction sets that can be created. It is possible, for example, with one click to initiate a process that creates a moving GIF from several captured pieces of information and saves it to the gallery.

Another "workflow" allows you to use an extension in Safari to create a PDF from the viewed website and immediately save it to iCloud. Another automatic sequence of actions will share an image to several social networks with a single tap, or create a Tweet about what you're listening to. Individual operations of the Workflow application can be launched directly from the application located on the home screen or through iOS Extensions within any other application. The possibilities of creating and editing instructions are quite wide and will increase with further updates.

The Workflow application is currently available in the App Store for a discounted price of €2,99. So if you want to try the app, definitely don't hesitate to buy it.

The look of the application has changed as a whole and reflects the general trend of graphic designers towards flat design.

Google Docs, Sheets and Slides bring new editing options and support for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus

Google has come up with an important update to its office suite. Its Documents, Tables and Presentations come with new editing options and customization for the larger displays of the new iPhones 6 and 6 Plus.

Among other things, documents will now allow you to view and edit text in tables. Presentations also received improvements, which learned to work with text fields, for example. They can be re-inserted, moved, rotated and resized. Of course, there are minor improvements to all three applications, an overall increase in the stability of their operation, and minor bug fixes.

Shazam has undergone a redesign, bringing deeper Spotify integration

Music recognition software called Shazam got a major update on Wednesday, bringing a completely redesigned home screen and music player. The Shazam.com website has also been improved, with a new "Hall of Fame" music section.

In addition, Shazam has gained deeper Spotify integration, thanks to which subscribers of the service can now listen to entire songs directly in the Shazam application.

Snapchat finally adapted for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus

Snapchat, a popular communication service focused on sending images, has also been adapted for larger displays. It is surprising that an application with such a large number of users waited almost three months for its optimization for the new iPhones. However, the desired update has arrived and contains other pleasant news. Among them is mainly the improved function of adding text to the photo. You can now change the color of the text, change its size with a gesture and move it around the screen with your finger.

Scanbot has come with new features and is now free

The team behind the popular application for scanning documents to PDF has updated its application to version 3.2. It brings several novelties, but temporarily also a new business strategy. Everyone can download and try the basic application for free during the holidays.

Both Spotify and Soundcloud come with iPhone 6 and 6 Plus optimization and new playlist options

Both Spotify and Soundcloud, two popular music services, received long-awaited support for the larger displays of the new iPhones this week. Additionally, both apps have received improvements related to playlists. Minor bug fixes are a matter of course for both applications.

Paper by FiftyThree 2.2 brings new ways of working with colors

Paper by FiftyThree is enriched with several new ways of handling colors in version 2.2. The first is the ability to change the background color of the painted image without losing the foreground by simply dragging the desired color from the palette or “Mixer” onto an empty surface. The second is connected to the social network Mix. On it, you can view and non-destructively work with the creations of others. This now includes the ability to save any found color to your own palette. This is done by pulling up the toolbar of the image you are viewing, double-clicking on the “Color Mixer”, selecting the desired color with the eyedropper, clicking on the Mixer again and dragging the color to the palette.

People can now be searched for in Mix using a global search available by pulling down on its main screen. Contacts from Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr can also be integrated.

Google Search for iOS brings Material Design

The main point of the fifth major version of the Google Search application is the design change according to the latest Android Lollipop. The transition to Material Design means many new animations, a more colorful environment and, for example, larger previews when searching for images.

The Google button is now always present in the bottom center of the screen for instant access to search, and previously visited pages can be viewed in a tab list similar to Android Lollipop's multitasking or Safari's bookmark overview. Google Maps are also much more accessible in the application than before. In addition, these allow not only to browse maps, but also to display Street View and "places in the vicinity".
