Apple Maps will work with information from Foursquare (16/11)

Apple Maps relies on information from many external sources to find places and points of interest. The largest currently include TomTom, booking.com, TripAdvisor, Yelp and others. Foursquare has now been added to this list. It is not yet clear how exactly Maps from Apple will handle Foursquare data, but they will probably see a similar integration as previous services, i.e. ranking places according to popularity among visitors.

Foursquare claims to have over two million businesses using its services and offers over 70 million user tips, reviews and comments. So it's definitely a solid data source.

Instagram reacts to the theft of login data, changes the rules for using the API (November 17)

In connection with the case surrounding the InstaAgent application, which was stealing user credentials, Instagram is coming up with new API terms of use. Instagram will now disable the existence of a number of third-party applications that may have accessed the user's posts. Only applications and services that have the following purpose will continue to be able to function:

  1. Help the user share their own content with third-party applications to print photos, set them as a profile picture, etc.
  2. Helping companies and advertisers understand and work with their audience, develop a content strategy and acquire digital media rights.
  3. Help media and publishers discover content, acquire digital rights and share media through embed codes.

Already, Instagram is implementing a new review process for apps that want to use its API. Existing applications must adapt to the new rules by June 1 next year. The tightening of Instagram's rules will put an end to the existence of many post-trust applications that promised users new followers and, for example, information about who started following them and who stopped following them. Applications will no longer be able to offer various programs to exchange shares, likes, comments or followers. The user's data will then not be used for anything other than analytical purposes without Instagram's permission.

However, due to Instagram's measures, quality and trusted applications that made it possible to view Instagram on devices that do not yet have an official native application will unfortunately be damaged. Restrictions will apply to popular browsers for iPad or Mac such as Retro, Flow, Padgram, Webstagram, Instagreat and the like.

Important update

CleanMyMac 3 now supports Photos in OS X

The successful CleanMyMac 3 maintenance application from the developers of the studio MacPaw came with an interesting update. It now fully supports the Photos system application for photo management. When cleaning the system and removing redundant files, you will now be able to delete the contents of Photos, including redundant caches or local copies of photos uploaded to the iCloud Photo Library. CleanMyMac will also offer the option to replace large files in RAW format with high-resolution JPEG photos.

You can free trial version of the application download here.

Waze brought 3D Touch support

Popular navigation app Waze got a big update last month that included a cool redesign. Now the Israeli developers are pushing their work a little higher with minor updates. They brought support for 3D Touch, thanks to which you can access frequently used functions faster than ever before on the latest iPhone.

If you press harder on the application icon on the iPhone 6s, you will immediately be able to search for an address, share your location with another user, or initiate navigation from your current location to home or work. The update also brings traditional minor bug fixes and minor improvements.

Things have a native app on the Apple Watch

Things, an application for creating and managing reminders and tasks, in the new version expands its field of activity also to the Apple Watch with wathOS 2. This means that the application is not only "streamed" from the phone via bluetooth to the watch, but runs directly on the device on the hand. This will make it run faster and smoother.

The update also includes two new "complications" - one that continuously displays the progress of completing tasks, the other that hints at what's next on the to-do list.

Fantastical comes with Peek & Pop and an improved native Apple Watch app

Elegant calendar Fantastical, which attracted the attention of users years ago with the possibility of entering events in natural language, has had the 3D Touch function for a long time. But with the latest update, the developers from the Flexibits studio extend the support of this news to Peek & Pop as well.

On the iPhone 6s, in addition to the shortcuts from the icon on the main screen, you will also be able to use the special Peek & Pop gestures, which will allow you to press hard on an event or reminder to call up its preview. With another press, the event can be fully displayed, and when you swipe up, you can access actions like "edit", "copy", "move", "share" or "delete" instead.

Apple Watch users will also be pleased. Fantastical now functions as a full-fledged native application on watchOS 2, including its own "complications". Thanks to this, you will be able to view the list of events and the overview of reminders directly on the watch. Many setting options have also been added to the Apple Watch, thanks to which you can conveniently set what information you will have available on the watch and how it will appear on your hand.

The updated Tweetbot for Mac will take advantage of all the display options of OS X El Capitan

Tweetbot, the popular Twitter browser for Mac, has been updated to version 2.2. Compared to the previous one, it contains bug fixes and slight changes to the appearance of the approaching version of Tweetbot 4 for iOS. The new ability to choose from which account to favorite a tweet will also be useful for some. Just right-click on the star icon.

However, the most striking new features are the new display methods in OS X El Capitan. Tapping the green button in the upper left corner of the application window will put Tweetbot in full-screen mode. Holding down the same button will then allow you to choose which other application to display in split display mode ("Split View").
