News from the world of applications

Samsung is said to bring several of its applications to iOS (January 25)

Earlier this month, Samsung announced that it was working on iOS support for its Gear S2 smartwatch. According to unofficial sources, the Korean technology giant is also developing an application for pairing iOS devices with the Gear Fit wristband, a similar Health application on iOS called S Health, a port of the Smart Camera application, special Remote Control and Family Square tools for working with the giant Galaxy View tablet and also the Levels application for controlling audio systems from Samsung.

You can now share your adventure on Periscope through the lens of GoPro cameras (January 26)

Periscope has moved to version 1.3.3, which brings major news for owners of GoPro HERO4 Silver and Black 4K cameras. They can connect to an iOS device using Wi-Fi and now broadcast live through it. So while the iPhone can remain safely switched on in the pocket, Periscope will use it to broadcast audio and video captured by a camera designed for more extreme conditions to the world.

Microsoft Expands Its Cloud Storage Program and Newly Integrates Box (January 27)

Last year, Microsoft announced a special program called the "Cloud Storage Partner Program", in which various cloud storage providers were given the opportunity to integrate their solutions directly into the Office suite. Now Microsoft is making this program even better by enabling live collaboration on documents and files stored in these clouds.

Following these announcements, support for alternative cloud storage is coming to the iOS platform, allowing users to access their documents stored in, for example, Box from Word, Excel or PowerPoint, with support for Citrix ShareFile, Edmodo and Egnyte repositories coming in the near future. Within these cloud services, it will be possible to open, edit and create new documents.

Microsoft's collaboration with the company behind the popular Doculus service, which focuses on more convenient work with complex corporate documents, was also announced. Doculus can automatically sort individual elements of business contracts and enables more efficient work with them. Doculus now integrates Office 365, so users of this application can easily access documents stored on Microsoft servers.

Snapchat will probably come with video calls. The application also makes it easier to share your own profile (January 28)

Snapchat initially allowed its users to communicate only through photos. Then videos, stories and text chat were added. It seems that the next step of Snapchat will be audio and video calls, and stickers are also coming to the chat. This is indicated by leaked screenshots of the test version of the app. Although these functions are already in the application code, they are not accessible to users.

One of the reasons this could change in the near future is because of Snapchat's issues with advertisers, who say the current form of the service doesn't give them enough data to create successful targeted advertising. So Snapchat could either charge for some of the new features (for example, it could open a sticker store) or provide them as additional space for advertising. News could also increase user activity and generate more potential ad customers.

It is not yet clear whether Snapchat will receive any of the mentioned new features. However, one new feature was added to Snapchat this week. Users now have the ability to share their profile with others much more easily. The latest version of Snapchat can create a link that leads directly to the user's profile. To get such a link, just tap on the ghost icon at the top of the display, open the "add friends" menu and choose the new "share username" option.

New applications

A scientist has developed an application for communication from the Apple Watch using Morse code

[youtube id=”wydT9V39SLo” width=”620″ height=”350″]

Apple Watch is supposed to be used, among other things, for communication. You can respond to messages that come to users using prepared responses, emoticons or dictation. However, direct text input is only possible using an iPhone, which is somewhat limiting. A scientist from San Diego, who is also a fan of the Apple Watch, therefore came up with a solution. He created a simple application for his own needs, with which it is possible to create messages directly on the Apple Watch using Morse code.

Although this solution is not for everyone, it is really elegant in its own way. Entering a message is really simple. Two control elements (dot and dash) are all you need and limitless possibilities of communication open up for you. Thanks to the Taptic Engine, the recipient does not even have to read the message. A sequence of variously short and long taps on the wrist conveys the entire message.

Unfortunately, this is not an app that can be downloaded from the App Store. It is a private project of a scientist who deals with cognitive abilities. Anyway, the app is interesting and shows what is possible on the Apple Watch.

Important update

Paper by 53 now supports system sharing, adds additional note formatting

Developers from FiftyThree have been trying to upgrade their Paper application from a tool primarily intended for drawing to a full-fledged "digital notebook" for a long time. So Paper is increasingly becoming a classic note-taking application, which is helped by the latest update.

Paper in version 3.5 brings system menu support for sharing, so you can send your drawings and notes to other applications and continue working with them. With this substantial innovation, new options for text formatting also come.

Google's Inbox mobile email client has learned to search better

The new version of Google's Inbox is especially interesting for those who use their e-mail box as a repository and source of all kinds of information. This smart email client has learned to provide cards with important information when searching for different passwords. These are displayed at the top of the list and are clearly organized using colors, images or interactive elements. Below them, of course, is a list of relevant emails.

So if you enter the password "chromecast order", you should see a Chromecast order, if you enter "dinner reservation", you should receive an email confirming the reservation in the restaurant, etc. The Inbox update is gradually being made available to Android users. The iOS version update should follow not long after.

Google's office applications further simplify collaboration on mobile devices

[youtube id=”0G5hWxbBFNU” width=”620″ height=”350″]

With the latest update, Google Docs, Sheets and Slides for iOS are able to create comments in documents, making it easier to collaborate on documents with other people. The button for inserting an object in all three applications now allows you to insert a comment either for the document as a whole or for specific fragments of it. In this way, Google tries to simplify the transition between devices and to make available as many functions as possible from the desktop interface also on phones and tablets, from which people perform an increasing percentage of their daily work.

The new Tinder will use the capabilities of the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus and can send GIFs in messages

The main news of Tinder in version 4.8 concerns the chat, more precisely its non-textual form. If the sent message only contains an emoticon, it will be enlarged (similar to Messenger), perhaps to make it clearer to the other party what emotion to express. But perhaps it can be done even more effectively with a GIF, which is now possible thanks to the integration of the Giphy service.

Animated images from the Giphy menu will be displayed in order of popularity within the entire community, with the less popular ones having to be searched. Finally, if the other party finds the incoming message interesting or clever, they can express it not only with a simple reply, but also with a "fake", a gesture so popular and effective on social networks.

The update will also please those who often and like to change their profile photos and use a pre-created stock for this. When improving their visual presentation on Tinder, users can now use the gallery of their mobile device. In addition, iPhone 6s and 6s Plus owners can use 3D Touch when opening links in conversations, specifically the Peek and Pop gestures, which will allow viewing the content of the link without leaving the conversation.
