Parallels 11 will bring the voice assistant Cortana to Mac (27/7)

Thanks to a leaked Parallels software product page on an Australian website, it appears that the popular virtualization tool Parallels 11 will bring Windows 10's Cortana voice assistant to OS X. The page explains that the user will be able to use Cortana even if Windows is only running in the background and the user is just work with Apple's OS X. In addition, the voice command "Hey Cortana" will be enough to activate Cortana. Paradoxically, Microsoft's voice assistant will arrive on the Mac before Apple's Siri.

In addition to information about Cortana, the product page also brought information that the new version of Parallels will be ready for the latest Windows 10 and OS X El Capitan systems. In addition, the software should be 50 percent faster and be much more energy efficient. There will also be news in the form of better printing within Windows, faster access to notifications from Windows, and the like.

The official date of arrival of the new version of the software is not yet known. But it is expected in the coming days. Microsoft's new operating system, called Windows 10, left the beta phase this week and is now officially available.

The company behind Camera+ bought the Filters app (29/7)

Filters are currently perhaps the most widespread way to edit mobile photos. At the same time, the Camera+ application is primarily focused on other aspects. But the simple, cheap and effective Filters app was apparently interesting to its creators, who decided to buy it after creator Mike Rundle offered it to buyers due to his inability to develop it sufficiently.

However, this does not mean that the Filters functionality will be integrated into Camera+ and the separate application will disappear. Rundle received several offers, but they were all interested in the algorithms the app uses and would likely cancel the app itself. People from the Camera+ team, on the other hand, have shown interest in the Filters app as a separate entity. In the same form and at the same price, it will also continue to be in App Store available, while interesting updates can certainly be expected in the future.

OS X Yosemite users can try the Reeder 3 RSS reader trial (30/7)

The Reeder RSS reader is a paid application, but its developer is currently finalizing version 3.0, which anyone can try for free in the beta version. One of the reasons for this could be the new user interface adapted to the aesthetics of OS X Yosemite and El Capitan. Others may be interested in the wider options for viewing saved articles and organizing them through smart folders with counters for unread and starred articles, private browsing, URLs displayed in the status bar when hovering over the article and web browsers, etc.

Compared to the previous version, the full-screen mode is usable even with a minimalist display, support for Instapaper, saved searches with Feedbin, tags with Minimal Reader, Inoreader, BazQux Reader, tags and deletion of articles with Readability and tags and the ability to download read items with Feedly have been added. OS X El Capitan users will be able to use split screen in full screen mode and the application font will be the new San Francisco.

Fixed bugs with Inoreader authentication, read/starred article counter, and several OS X El Capitan visuals.

Pocket Public Beta Launched with Featured Links (31/7)

Pocket is a popular application for saving links, videos and images for later consumption. These are then available on all the user's devices with the application installed, even in offline mode.

In addition, Pocket may not only access content saved by a given user, but also content sent to him by his friends. And since Pocket's developers aim to get people to use the app as much as possible, next time the amount of available content will also be expanded to include recommendations sent based on what the user has previously saved, read and shared. The recommended content is not created by the application's algorithms or hired people, but by other Pocket users and will be displayed in a separate tab.

The intention, as already mentioned, is to get users to use Pocket as often as possible. But developers want to do it in a way that users will appreciate. This means helping them choose which article to read first and which video to watch first. In the flood of hundreds of links, it is easy to get lost and give up on browsing them, which is not beneficial for content creators, its intermediaries, or consumers.

For now, the Pocket Recommendations app is available in a public trial version that is available <a href="https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1932/8043/files/200721_ODSTOUPENI_BEZ_UDANI_DUVODU__EN.pdf?v=1595428404" data-gt-href-en="https://en.notsofunnyany.com/">here</a>.

Warhammer: Arcane Magic has arrived on the App Store

A new title from the Warhammer gaming world has arrived on iPhone and iPad this week. New Warhammer: Arcane Magic is a turn-based board game that takes players into the battlefields of the Old World and Chaos Wastelands in alliance with a group of wizards.

As you make your way through the world and the game's campaign, you will be able to team up with other mages, acquire unique magic cards, of which there are a total of 45 in the game, and fight across sixteen different lands. You can download the game now from the App Store for 9,99 €.

iPhone users will also be able to play Legend of Grimrock

In May was released in a version for the iPad popular RPG game, Legend of Grimrock. Although it was three years behind schedule, older school dungeon crawl RPG fans certainly appreciated it.

Now even those who don't own a device with a larger display, or who want to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of a mysterious abandoned mountain with prisoners in places where they wouldn't take an iPad with them, got their chance. The latest update allows you to download Legend of Grimrock to iPhone as well. Those who already have the game on their iPad will not have to pay again, those who don't, let them prepare 4,99 euros and visit the dark catacombs before App Store.

Important update

Google Translate expands language support for the translation of the content of the viewfinder to include Czech

A week ago it was mentioned in Apps Week that Google is working with neural networks. One of their uses now appears to be the translation of inscriptions on objects seen in the viewfinder of the device's camera. The user does not have to find out how to get the inscription on the sign in a different language and font into the translator, just point the phone at it and Google will recognize the inscription in almost real time and replace it with a version that the user can understand.

[youtube id=”06olHmcJjS0″ width=”620″ height=”350″]

Google Translate was last updated in January this year, when the feature was made available for seven languages. Now more of them are supported and Czech is among them. Inscriptions on real objects can therefore be translated to and from English, Czech, Slovak, Russian, Bulgarian, Catalan, Croatian, Danish, Dutch, Filipino, Finnish, French, Indonesian, Italian, Lithuanian, Hungarian, German, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian , Swedish, Spanish, Turkish and Ukrainian. In one direction, from English, Google can also translate inscriptions into Hindi and Thai.

Another goal of the Google Translate team is to make the translation of the content of the live viewfinder available to Arabic languages, which are popular but graphically complicated. Furthermore, the translation of conversations should work better than before, when the application translates what it hears into the other person's language, even with a weak internet connection.

Twitter comes with interactive notifications

The official Twitter app for iOS has received a minor but important update that could push it a little higher in usability. Notifications have been improved and are now interactive, allowing you to quickly reply to tweets or star them from anywhere in the system.

In addition, Twitter has also made it easier to access drafts of detailed tweets. These can now be accessed directly from the tweeting interface. All you have to do is press the corresponding icon and you can easily return to a tweet that you didn't tweet last time.

Periscope brings Handoff support, the ability to turn off specific notifications and much more

Another Twitter application – Periscope – also received an interesting update. This popular live video streaming app has received several new features and improvements. An interesting novelty is that users now have the option to turn off notifications related to specific users. So, if you follow someone but don't want to be notified every time they start streaming a video, you can easily turn off such notifications for that particular user.

The update also comes with a brand new "global feed" that lets you discover live broadcasts from around the world that the app says you might be interested in. In connection with this, there is also the possibility to filter streams by language.

Another new feature is the ability to view statistics related to your previous broadcasts. Until now, you could only view the numbers related to the transfer at the moment when the transfer ended. Finally, Handoff support has also been added, thanks to which you can start watching a stream on one Apple device and then continue watching on another device.

Fantastical for iPhone learned to work with concepts

The popular calendar for iOS Fantastical received an interesting update. This time, the developers from the Flexibits studio are coming up with a new drafts feature, thanks to which, similar to the Mail application, you can swipe up to interrupt work on the current draft, and then you have the option to go back to the calendar in a special "multitasking" interface. When you then read the necessary information from the calendar, you can easily return to the draft again and, as can be seen in the picture, the function even works with more drafts.

In addition to this interesting news, the new version of Fantastical, marked 2.4, also brings localization into Japanese. The biggest added value of Fantastical, which is entering an event in natural language (e.g. "Lunch with Bob at 5pm"), can now also be used by Japanese people in their native language. In addition to English, Fantastical has previously learned French, German, Italian and Spanish.

Boxer has reached version 6.0, it also integrates a calendar into the advanced email application

The popular e-mail application Boxer wants to catch up with competitors in the form of Outlook from Microsoft, Gmail and Inbox from Google, etc. and comes with version 6.0, which brings many new features. Boxer has received a new design and, above all, the integration of the calendar, thanks to which you can share your availability in a flash and make appointments more easily using e-mail. Last but not least, contacts are also newly integrated into the application.

Boxer offers the possibility to log in to the e-mail box of a wide range of services. Gmail, Google Apps, Outlook, Yahoo, iCloud and Exchange are supported. The application does not lack push notifications, adjustable gestures for fast work with mail, quick replies and the like. However, it lacks the division of mail into priority and other, which, for example, the mentioned Outlook, Inbox or Gmail can do.

The basic version of Boxer with single account support is in the App Store available for free. If you want to use more accounts or use Exchange support, you will have to go for the paid version, which is available for 4,99 €.

VSCO Cam users can now create their own collections of their favorite photos

VSCO Cam has been around for a while now, not just for editing photos, but also for sharing them. Until now, this has been done through user profiles that can be followed and found using keywords or a collection in the Grid tab curated by VSCO staff. In the new version, you can create your own collections. The difference between them and simple saved favorite pictures is that others can see them too. Each user can thus publicly present the work that he likes, that inspires him, with which he creates his artistic identity and shows himself to other members of the VSCO community.

Adding an image to the Collection is easy - while viewing, we first double-click it to add it to the saved images, and then select the ones we want to add to the Collection in their folder.
