Facebook is testing Snapchat-style photo annotations (June 29)

Facebook is currently testing new features on iOS inspired by the popular Snapchat, which are integrated directly into the interface for uploading images. News allows you to add inscriptions and stickers to photos before uploading them to complete them. The novelty has not yet been extended globally, so only selected users can try the function. It is not known when the feature will become public or when it will also arrive on other platforms.

Musixmatch also handles music from Apple Music (July 1)

Musixmatch is a popular iOS app that can find the lyrics to the song you're playing and show it to you with karaoke-style timing. This perfect app also has its own Notification Center widget, so when you're listening to music, just pull down the top bar of your iPhone and you'll immediately see the lyrics of the song being played.

However, the pleasant discovery is that this is how Musixmatch works not only with music stored on the iPhone, but also with music that you play within the new music service Apple Music. Interestingly, the application can do this without having to go through an update first.

Important update

The excellent Scanner Pro has received a new version

The successful Ukrainian developer studio Readdle has released a new version of the Scanner Pro scanning application, enriching it with many improvements and a new and redesigned interface. In Scanner Pro 6, the already excellent edge detection has been improved, which will allow you to automatically crop the scanned document perfectly, and in connection with this, a tool has also been added that can search for document photos in your photo gallery and work with them.

[vimeo id=”131745381″ width=”620″ height=”350″]

Also new is the option of automatic scanning, thanks to which you just need to hold the phone over the document, because the application will take a picture after analyzing the document and its edges. You will definitely appreciate something like this when you are holding your phone in one hand and handling a series of sheets of paper that you want to scan in the other.

If you don't already own Scanner Pro 6, we highly recommend this app. Together with the competitor Scanbot, it certainly belongs to the best that can be purchased in the given category. Scanner Pro is now available for a price 2,99 €. However, after the introductory event, the price of the application will increase to €5,99. If you would like to try Scanner by Readdle first, there is also a free version Scanner Mini with limited functionality.

Pushbullet has also become a handy communication app

The Pushbullet application received the biggest update in its history so far, which, in addition to being a handy tool for sharing files, has also become a communicator. In addition to this new feature, Pusbullet also received other improvements and a total redesign.

The new Pushbullet sorts incoming "things" much better and more clearly into "Friends", "Me" and "Following" categories, depending on where and how they got to your device. In addition, if you click on any contact, you will see a clear timeline recording all your communication with that person, as well as an overview of the files you have shared with them.

Snapchat finally lets your finger rest

It was previously rumored that Snapchat was going to remove the need to hold your finger on the screen to view a picture or play a video, and this week it really happened. Newly, it is enough to tap on the image or video once, which the user will really appreciate, especially when watching longer videos.

Also new is the "Add Nearby" function, which will make it much easier to add friends to your address book of this service. It works by showing you Snapchat users in your vicinity who have their app open right on the "Add Nearby" screen. So if you stand in a group of friends and want to add these friends on Snapchat, you can do so in seconds.

Another convenient way of adding friends, which is the use of so-called Snapcodes, has been improved with the ability to add your photo to the code, which makes the special code easier for other users to identify.

The new Twitterrific recognizes faces for better preview cropping

The main domain of the latest update of the Twitter viewing app, Twitterrific, is changes and improvements such as optimization of loading, rotation and scrolling or modified controls and notification windows so that they do not overlap the timeline. Support for fonts improving readability, etc., was also expanded.

However, the news are more interesting, this time three. The first concerns notifications – with the new version of Twitterrific, the user will also be notified of quoted tweets, but if they don't want to, they can turn off this function separately in the settings. The second new feature will allow the user to go back from the current view by swiping from the left edge of the phone's display. Finally, perhaps the most useful new feature is the automatic recognition of faces in images, thanks to which Twitterrific crops the image previews of tweets accordingly.

Google also applied Material Design to Hangouts for iOS

Google has changed the look of the Material Design app Hangouts for iOS to its latest version. It is taken from Android Lollipop and in practice is not much different from how Hangouts on iOS looked until now - the user will just feel more aesthetically in the world of Google. Perhaps the most striking graphic element is the new plus button in the lower right corner of the display, used to quickly initiate a conversation with one of your favorite contacts.

The user experience should be further improved by a redesigned screen for dialing numbers and easier access to sharing images, stickers, emoji, etc.

VLC Player can be controlled from Apple Watch

It seems that VLC Player has finally, at least for a while, gotten rid of the problems with the App Store rules and thus has room to grow. The most recent result of this is the addition of Apple Watch support. Users can now use them to control video playback on their mobile device, view information about it, or browse the library. This can also be done by users without an Apple Watch, as the new version of VLC player includes a mini-player.

Also added support for repeating playlists, improved preview generation, cropping video according to screen size on iPad, fixed bugs causing the application to crash when minimized and when playing while the screen is locked, etc.

SounHound now links to Apple Music

We are a week ago informed that the new version of Shazam displays an icon directly linking to the new Apple Music streaming service for recognized songs. Competing app SoundHound has now received the same extension.

However, Soundhound also refers to Beats 1, the service's radio station. Since it is live, it is not possible to link directly to the given songs, and it is more like a kind of promotion of the station across different parts of the application.

SoundCloud adds 'play similar tracks' option to its iOS app

SoundCloud is intended to serve as a source of new music from often emerging artists that one would otherwise have difficulty coming into contact with. The new version of its application for iOS is therefore quite significant, because the new item "play similar songs" is available from practically anywhere in the application. It is therefore very easy to get carried away by the stream of songs that SoundCloud places in the "endless playlist".

The created playlists were then enriched with the possibility of playback in shuffle mode. In the same way, it is also possible to listen to favorite songs.
