Leisure Suit Larry Coming to iOS (26/6)

Would-be playboy Larry from the classic 80s game series returns. Thanks to Kickstarter, it was possible to finance the remake of the first part from 1987, Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards, where Larry tries to make contact with the ubiquitous beautiful girls in an adventure game full of humor and very light erotica, but without success. While the Mac and PC version was released this week for less than twenty dollars, we will have to wait until the first half of July for the iOS version.

Strange application rejection due to iCloud (27/6)

Productivity app developer Autriv has hit a controversial roadblock in implementing iCloud into its SignMyPad app, which is used to sign PDF files. At the request of users, the developers wanted to use a cloud service for synchronizing documents between iPhone and iPad. However, after submitting the application to the App Store, they were met with unpleasant news - Apple rejected their update because, according to the company, the iCloud implementation violated established rules.
Apple has argued that iCloud is only for syncing user-created content, citing drawing apps as an example. In this case, however, it is a fair amount of hypocrisy. Not only does Apple make it possible to synchronize third-party content in its own applications (for example, in iWork), but in the App Store you can find many other applications, namely file managers, that synchronize any content. And what did Apple recommend to developers? Use a third-party service, such as Dropbox. It is incomprehensible how pansy Apple can sometimes treat developers.

Apple added auto-renewable subscriptions to the Mac App Store in OS X 10.9 (28/6)

iOS application developers have for a long time been able to sell premium versions of applications or, for example, new issues of electronic magazines directly in the application through a subscription using the In-App Purchase method. Mac application developers who offer their applications through the Mac App Store will also get the same option. In-app purchases of premium features are now available for Mac apps. However, it is currently not possible to perform periodically recurring transactions on OS X. For example, Evernote or Wunderlist have their Pro versions, which are paid annually. It is for such applications that the in-app subscription feature will be added to OS X Mavericks. Users will be able to manage different subscriptions directly in the Mac App Store.

New applications

Max Payne 3

In 2012, Max Payne shined in a big comeback, when the third part was released after long years of waiting. In it, after the previous events, Max leaves New York and moves to exotic Sao Paulo, where he becomes a bodyguard for a wealthy family. However, it wouldn't be Max Payne if there wasn't a vast conspiracy involving many dead around him.
The game system has been reworked only slightly. Of course, you will find the well-known bullet time in the game, but Max will also get a large number of moves, such as prone shooting. The newest part stands out for its great graphics, dynamics where animated scenes alternate with gameplay and, as always, the elaborate story that was the engine of the entire series. The game takes about 12 hours and the gameplay can be varied with several modes and, surprisingly, with a multiplayer game where you participate in a war between gangs. This week the game appeared in the Mac App Store, so you can play this modern gem of a game on OS X as well.

Contra Evolution

Not long after Konami released the remake of the classic Contra shooter on the Japanese App Store, a version for the rest of the world is coming. 26 years after the game appeared on the NES system and other platforms, Contra returns with significantly improved graphics, music and customization for touch screens. In addition to the original levels, it also brings some new ones, and during the fall, the game should also receive support for game controllers supported in iOS 7. The game is available for both iPhone and iPad, but each version must be purchased separately.

motion tennis

The Nintendo Wii once gained its popularity primarily through one game - tennis. This game was the best way to demonstrate the basic principle of the entire game console and attract every viewer. Many players have loved being able to hit a virtual ball right in the middle of their living room. The development studio Rolocule is now betting on the same weapon with its game Motion Tennis. Although it is an iPhone application, it is not an ordinary one. It uses Apple TV and a normal TV screen to display the events. The iPhone then serves the same way as the Wiimote. The player waves it around as if it were a tennis racket and thus controls the game.
Motion Tennis can be downloaded from the App Store for 6,99 euros, so you will need an iPhone and Apple TV to run it. Thanks to the AirPlay mirroring function, users of Apple products can experience a gaming experience similar to that of the Nintendo Wii console. Studio Rolocule is also working on a badminton and squash game of this type, and we could also expect a zombie-themed game title in the future. The game shows a new approach to the iPhone and its gaming potential. Now we see that we don't have to touch the screen at all while playing on our favorite phone. In addition, the game also reveals new possibilities for using Apple TV and its possible inclusion in the gaming segment.

Magic 2014 – M: TG on iPad for the second time

Last year we saw the adaptation of the popular game Magic: The Gathering for the iPad for the first time. This was a special edition of Duels of the Planeswalkers that is also available for desktop systems. A year later, Magic returns to iPad screens with new packages, improved graphics and controls. Just like last year, the game is free and will offer only 3 packs in the basic version and five unlockable cards that you can use in the campaign. If you want to play with live players online, you need to unlock the full game with an In-App Purchase for €8,99. The full game will expand the number of premade packs to 10, add 250 unlockable cards as well as new campaigns. The new Sealed Play mode will allow you to build your own decks from available cards. If you're a fan of the game and an iPad owner, Magic 2014 is almost a must.

Important update

Tweetbot with Instagram Video support

Not long after Instagram announced new video features that bear a striking resemblance to the social network Vine, the developers at Tabpots have come up with support for playing these videos in the Tweetbot iOS app. Tweetbot already supports displaying photos from Instagram or videos from Vine, so videos from the popular photo social network are no surprise, although the support came very quickly, for which the developers deserve admiration. You can find Tweetbot in the App Store for 2,69 € for iPhone and beyond the same price also for iPad.

Mailbox

The alternative email client Mailbox from developer group Orchestra has come with an update to version 1.3.2. This is a fairly important update that brings several new features and fixes. The first of the new features is support for landscape display mode. The new version of Mailbox also brings the "Send as" option - the classic alias function that we know from Gmail. Thanks to this, it is possible to send a message from your mailbox from a different e-mail address than that belonging to the given mailbox. You can find Mailbox in the App Store free.

dropbox

Dropbox also came up with a very substantial update to its universal iOS application. The most striking new feature is the long-requested option to simply share the entire folder, as well as the addition of a swipe gesture. Now, by swiping over any file or folder, a menu can be called up and the file can be shared, moved or deleted straight away. It is therefore no longer necessary to switch to "Edit" mode for these actions. The ability to share photos in bulk has also been added.

Google Earth

After many updates bringing only minor improvements and bug fixes, this time comes a bigger update to the popular Google Earth. Version 7.1.1. it's definitely worth a look as it brings Street View support and improved 3D navigation routes. The following post appeared on the Google Maps blog about the said update:

"Have you ever wanted to walk around Stonehenge or perhaps travel in the footsteps of Christopher Columbus? Thanks to Street View integrated in Google Earth, you can browse the streets of many places around the world even on your mobile phone. With the new user interface, simply click on the Earth logo in the top left corner and you'll also get lots of information from Wikipedia and photos from Panoramio. If you decide to visit the discovered places yourself, Google Earth will offer you improved traffic, walking and cycling routes, all in 3D.”

Google Earth is in the App Store free.

Skitch

Evernote developers have announced another update to Skitch for Mac. This time the update brings improvements to the most used ability of this software – taking screenshots. This feature has been modernized and is now easier and faster to use.
In addition, the development team has added new more accurate shapes that can be used when editing images and slides. It is now possible to mark individual segments in a better and more detailed manner and thus express your thoughts more precisely. Each object now also has an adjustable background canvas size, so it can be expanded to give you room to add notes, arrows, and the like. Skitch is a free download on the Mac App Store.

Droplr 3.0 with iPad support

A service for quickly sharing images, links and other files, Droplr has released a new version of its iOS client. In particular, it brings a completely redesigned user interface with pleasant graphics and also support for the iPad. Uploads can now be viewed natively in the app, links to them can be shared via the default share menu in iOS 6, and the Pro version can be subscribed to directly from the app via In-App Purchase. Droplr is available in the App Store free.
