Apple's 'Apps for Earth' Raises $8M for WWF (17/6)

In April in the App Store, the "Apps for Earth" campaign took place, within the framework of which the ten-day earnings of 27 popular applications were to be donated to the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). The aim of the event was both to contribute financially to WWF and to increase people's familiarity with its existence and activities. At this year's WWDC, which took place this week, WWF announced that 8 million dollars (approx. 192 million crowns) were collected as part of this event.

"Apps for Earth" was Apple's second collaboration with the World Wide Fund for Nature. The first was announced in May last year and concerns the protection of forests in China.

Important update

Twitter has a new button to start a live broadcast through Periscope

Periscope is Twitter's live video streaming app. It shares a user account with Twitter, but is functionally independent from it. This also means that a Twitter user is quite far from a Periscope user, as they have to know about its existence, have the app downloaded and run it independently.

This is what Twitter is trying to change with the latest update to its main application, as it has added a button to start a live broadcast on Periscope. More precisely, the given button will only open the Periscope app or offer to download it. Even so, this is a move forward and hopefully a promise of further deepening the integration of live broadcasting directly into Twitter.

Netflix now supports picture-in-picture

The application of the popular service for streaming movies and series Netflix has received an important update, which includes the possibility to use the picture-in-picture option when playing videos. On iPads with iOS 9.3.2, the user will be able to minimize the player window and let it run while working on other things on the iPad. However, according to Netflix, the function has the specificity that the user does not activate it with any special button. This special mode is triggered when the user closes the Netflix app while playing a video.

An update to version 8.7 is now available to download from the App Store.

Opera has learned to block advertising on iOS as well

Ad blocking has become one of Opera's key features on the desktop, so it's no surprise that the feature is now heading to the iPhone and iPad as well. On mobile devices, ad blocking is even more important to save data and battery, which the company realizes and now gives users the option to turn on the built-in ad blocker in Opera on iOS as well. It can be activated in the latest version of Opera in the "Data Savings" menu
