Facebook removed the Poke and Camera applications from the App Store, Adobe came up with a new Voice application, Hipstamatic has a new colleague designed for video editing, and GoodReader and iFiles received major updates. Read that and much more in our App Week.

News from the world of applications

Facebook Poke and Camera have left the AppStore (9/5)

The Facebook Poke app was kind of a reaction to the success of Snapchat. It looked similar to "Messenger" - it consisted only of a list of friends/conversations and a few icons allowing the classic Facebook "nudge", sending a text message, picture or video. The bottom line was that the sent content could only be seen for 1, 3, 5 or 10 seconds after opening, which is one of the basic principles of Snapchat. However, the Facebook app hasn't caught on much since its launch less than a year and a half ago, and yesterday it was pulled from the AppStore, probably forever.

However, the Poke download didn't end Facebook's app purge. We will no longer download the "Camera" application to iOS devices, which was primarily used for mass uploading of photos. The reason is probably mainly the fact that the native Facebook application now makes it possible.

Rovio released a new game inspired by the cult Flappy Bird (6/5)

Rovio has launched a new game, Retry. Its name refers to two words - firstly "retro" and secondly "retry". These indicate the "outdated" aesthetics of the game and its high difficulty ("retry" in English means "repeat"), two characteristics specific to the Flappy Bird sensation. The method of control is also similar, which only takes place by tapping on the display. But this time you are not flying with a bird, but with a small plane. The levels are visually richer, more diverse, and the game physics are also more refined. When climbing, the plane also accelerates, it is possible to make circles in the air, backflips, etc. It should be noted, however, that the game has so far only been made available in Canada.

New applications

Adobe has launched the Voice app for iPad

A new Voice application from Adobe has arrived in the App Store, which is used to create "narrative presentations" containing video, images, icons, animations, voice accompaniment and so on. The Adobe developers themselves comment on their creation as follows:

Created to help people make an impact online and across social networks—without the need for any filming or editing—Adobe Voice is ideal for creative professionals designing a project, nonprofits fighting for a good cause, small business owners communicating with customers, or students looking to create interactive and entertaining presentation.

When creating presentations in the Voice application, you can choose from many templates that then guide the user step by step to create an understandable, story-building (as Adobe emphasizes), visually minimalistic and at the same time complex video, or work freely with the available elements, at your own discretion. The available elements come from Adobe's own database, there are plenty of them available.

The application is available for free on the AppStore for iPad (requirement is iOS7 and at least iPad 2)

Epiclist - a social network for adventurers

Some time ago, an application appeared in the AppStore bringing together users who like to travel. Its narrower focus is fairly obvious from the title – far more than trips to the pond in the next village, it focuses on people whose lives have been changed by their trip to the Himalayas.

The motivational nature of Epiclist is mentioned in almost every information about it - life is an adventure, start your journey, tell your story, follow the adventures of others. These phrases describe the features of the application. Each user has his own profile, which includes both planned trips (the planning of which can be done directly in the application) and "diaries" from the previous ones. This information is also available to others and people thus motivate each other to "discover the beauty of the world".

Cinamatic or Hipstamatic for mobile video

Hipstamatic, one of the long-term most successful applications for taking and editing photos, certainly does not need a long introduction. The popularity of Hipstamatic is really huge and the name of this application will be associated with mobile photography probably forever. However, the developers behind this application overslept for a long time and ignored the fact that the iPhone can also record video.

But now things are changing and the developers behind Hipstamatic have released the Cinamatic app to the App Store. As you might expect, the application is used to take a video and then make simple adjustments in the form of applying various filters and the like. The application adheres to fashion trends and allows you to shoot only short videos in the range of 3-15 minutes, which can then be posted on Vine, Instagram, Facebook or shared via e-mail or using a classic message.

The app can be downloaded from the App Store for €1,79, with five basic filters included in this price. Additional filters can be purchased separately via in-app purchase.

Important update

Good Reader 4

The popular tool for working with PDF GoodReader has received a major update. Version 4 of this app is now available for download on iOS and includes many new features, as well as a completely new look adapted to iOS 7. The bad news for app owners is that this is not a free update, but a new purchase at a new price. The good news is that GoodReader 4 is now more than half off at €2,69.

The new features are really handy and at least some of them are definitely worth mentioning. One of these is, for example, the possibility of inserting blank pages into a document, which solves the problem of lack of space for drawing additional drawings or writing text. It is now also possible to change the order of pages, rotate them (one by one or in bulk) or delete individual pages from the document. Also new is the option to export individual pages from a PDF document and, for example, send them by e-mail.

You can download GoodReader 4 as a universal application for iPhone and iPad from the App Store as already mentioned 2,69 €. However, the offer is limited time, so don't hesitate. The original GoodReader pro iPhone i iPad it remains in the App Store for now.

Tumblr

The official application of the Tumblr blogging network has also received an important update. The big news is that the appearance of the entire blog can finally be customized via the application on iPhone and iPad. Until now, it was only possible to insert content and edit it if necessary, but now you finally have control over the entire blog. You can change colors, fonts, images and page layout, all through the app.

You can download Tumblr for both iPhone and iPad free from the App Store.

iFiles

The popular iFiles file manager has also received a substantial update. This universal application, thanks to which you can comfortably manage the contents of your iPhone and iPad, has finally received a jacket corresponding to current design trends and iOS 7.

Apart from the redesign, however, the application has not received any major changes. The only other news should be an update to the box.net cloud storage API and a fix for a bug associated with working with files from Ubuntu.
