SoundCloud introduced paid streaming service SoundCloud Go (March 30)

SoundCloud decided to join classic streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Music or Deezer and introduced SoundCloud Go. The monthly subscription is set at $9,99, with iOS users paying $12,99 due to Apple's commission. For existing SoundCloud Pro Unlimited subscribers, on the other hand, the price is reduced to $4,99 per month for the first six months.

For a monthly fee, subscribers get access to 125 million tracks from many major recording studios, including Sony. But SoundCloud will of course continue to be a place to listen to independent projects of all kinds, which will remain available for free. If a non-subscriber comes across a paid song, they will be able to listen to a thirty-second preview of it.

Currently, SoundCloud Go subscriptions are only available in the US, with more countries to follow throughout the year.

Twitter added verbal descriptions of images (30/3)

Some time ago, the head of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, asked developers to share their ideas for new features for the social network with the hashtag #HelloWorld. The ability to add text descriptions to images became the fourth most requested. Something like this was primarily intended to make the visual component of Twitter accessible to people with visual impairments. And this very feature became a reality this week. The description can contain a maximum of 420 characters and can be added by clicking on the pencil icon that appears after uploading an image to the post.

Developers of alternative Twitter clients can also add the new function to their applications thanks to the extended REST API.

Disney Infinity 3.0 for Apple TV will not receive any further updates (30/3)

After only four months on the market, Disney has decided to end support for the game inspired by the Star Wars series called Disney Infinity 3.0 for Apple TV. It came to light through a technical support response to a customer query. It read: “The team is currently focusing on traditional gaming platforms. We're constantly evaluating the situation and making changes, but we don't currently have any further updates planned for the Apple TV version of the game.”

One of the possible reasons could be the low success of the game. However, the players who paid for it are still disappointed. When the game was released, Disney stimulated interest in it, among other things, by offering a special package that included a controller and a stand for a figure from the game and cost $100 (approximately CZK 2400). For example, the end of support for Apple TV means that players on that platform won't have access to any new characters.

Microsoft Office for Mac users will soon be able to use third-party add-ins (31/3)

Microsoft's developer conference called Build 2016 took place this week, and one of the announcements made at it concerned users of Microsoft Office applications for Mac. They will be able to install third-party applications in all Office applications "by the end of spring".

This capability was first introduced with the Office 2013 package, and since then Microsoft has allowed services such as Uber, Yelp or PickIt to be integrated into its office applications.

Starbucks, for example, is currently said to be working on its additional application, which wants to add the ability to easily send "electronic gifts" [e-gifts] and arrange meetings near Starbucks cafes to Outlook.
