News from the world of applications

Thanks to cooperation with Foursquare, Twitter will enable check-in at specific locations (March 23)

Twitter, in cooperation with Foursquare, plans to improve the geolocation background of tweeting and allow sharing of your exact location or presence at specific points of interest. Twitter itself allows you to assign a location to a tweet, but only with the precision of a state or city.

You will not need to have a Foursquare account to use the service, as it will be a directly integrated feature. There are no details yet on when the service will roll out to all users globally. But according to Twitter's support page, users from selected corners of the world should already have it available.

Filters has hundreds of filters for images

“You don't take photos with Filters. You are reshaping them.” Those are the first two sentences of the description of the new Filters app. The goal it sets for itself is quite simple, but that's exactly why it's set by countless other applications that Filters has to compete with. Filters can be used to edit images just as easily as the built-in “Images” editors, without the need to transfer them to another library.

There are hundreds of adjustments that can be made. Filters offers more than 500 color filters and over 300 textures, all of which allow you to change the intensity. There are also all the classic adjustments, i.e. changes in brightness, contrast, exposure, saturation, and several "intelligent" adjustment sets that analyze the photo and modify its properties accordingly.

All of this is presented in a very simple and minimalistic user environment that tries to give as much space as possible to the content and at the same time make working with it as efficient as possible through large live previews.

The Filters app is available in the App Store for €0,99, which will make all of her abilities available to the user.

Important update

Instapaper 6.2 is faster and more efficient

Instapaper is an application and associated service for saving articles from the web for later reading. Its new version brings three new features.

The first novelty is the possibility of quick reading. When this special mode is turned on, the words on the display are displayed individually, which allows them to be read much faster than in a continuous text. The speed can be adjusted. Quick reading is available for ten articles per month for free, and unlimited for subscribers of the premium version.

The second new ability is “Instant Sync”. This must be turned on in the settings and consists of sending "silent notifications" when saving articles. This will allow the app to download content from Instapaper's servers instantly, speeding up synchronization. The developer blog then mentions that this feature is subject to Apple's battery-saving algorithms and is therefore most reliable when the device is charging.

Finally, the extension for iOS 8 has been redesigned again, making saving articles much faster. The ability to quickly share selected text on Twitter has also been added.

Steller wants to tell visual stories simply in version 3.0

[vimeo id=”122668608″ width=”600″ height=”350″]

Steller provides an Instagram-like experience, but allows users to compose individual photos or videos into "visual stories" complete with text. These are then displayed in individual posts on user profiles as several-page (their number depends on the creator) "workbooks". Users can be followed, posts can be commented on and added to favorites.

In its third version, Stellar tries to bring the presentation of photos, videos and text as "visual stories" closer to users by simplifying the application and at the same time expanding the possibilities for creating "stories". There are six basic templates to choose from, but each of them offers several different compositions of individual elements – some give space mainly to photos, others allow the author to write a little. Templates can be changed during the creation process, photos and videos can be added later, and even "stories" in progress can be saved. Steller imagines the results as spaces for the artistic expression of various interests and experiences of creators.

You can download Steller free in the App Store.
