News from the world of applications

What does the ugliest app in the App Store look like? (9/4)

Server & Hosting Cult of Mac discovered one of the least attractive apps to appear in the App Store. The application already has a head-scratching name – Documents Unlimited PDF & Office Editor Apps for iPad and it is clear from it that it is an application for editing PDF files and documents from the Office package. The design of the application is very typical for open source projects, which usually cannot boast of a well-crafted user interface. A native application for the iPad should follow certain rules, especially easy finger control.

However, the application environment looks like something from the last decade, dominated by a number of miniature buttons. You can barely control them with your finger. The editor even allows you to turn on the mouse mode, so you can control the non-optimized environment at least with the relative cursor. The biggest shock is the price of €15,99 (currently on sale for €3,99), which the author is asking for this pasquil. If you are still interested in the application, you can find it in the App Store here.

Deus Ex Human Revolution Releases for Mac (10/4)

Continuation of the legendary Deus Ex we will also see it on Mac. Deus Ex was a phenomenon in its time, it gained its reputation mainly thanks to a well-developed story. Deus Ex Human Revolution takes place in the cyberpunk future of 2027, where the enhancement of the human body using biomechanics is the order of the day and people are becoming cyborgs. In the game, you take on the role of Adam Jensen, the head of security at the biotech company Sarif Industries, who suffers severe injuries after a terrorist attack and his body must be biomechanically modified.

As you search for the people responsible for the attack, you will gradually take advantage of the benefits that biomechanics provide. So Deus Ex will not be a straightforward action, you will use many mechanisms here - stealth, hacking, close and distance combat or sophisticated social interaction with NPCs. The game is to be released on April 26 and you can buy it for 39,99 euros. The game is not even a year old, so expect higher demands, you won't run it even on 13″ MacBook Pro graphics cards.

Apple has released DragonDrop into the Mac App Store (April 10)

After several weeks, Apple has finally opened its doors to the Mac App Store also to smart boxes DragonDrop. It is a very similar utility as it is yoink. In short, the application creates a kind of temporary storage for your files, links to websites, texts... Just shake the mouse or your fingers on the trackpad while dragging, and a small window will appear in which you can insert the given object. Apple initially didn't like that DragonDrop "changes the native behavior of OS X". However, the developers pointed to other applications of the same nature that are already in the App Store, and Apple finally agreed with them.

New applications

Publero – Czech magazines and newspapers on the iPad

Due to the low number of Czech periodicals in the App Store, the Publero application for iPad was highly anticipated. Through this digital distribution, you can choose from dozens of magazines and newspapers published in the Czech Republic. Among them is the apple magazine SuperApple, to which the editors of Jablíčkář regularly contribute.

But the start of the application was not very successful. Although the user interface and control of the application is nicely processed, Publero faces serious problems, such as slow rendering and stability, where the application crashes very often. In addition, magazines in Publer lack any interactive content, making it more of a better PDF reader. Despite the rough start, the app is at least worth paying attention to, plus you can download a few sample magazines to try for free.

Max Payne Mobile - another gaming legend for iOS

Another nostalgic gem has arrived in the App Store. Rockstar Games, behind the recently released Grand Theft Auto 3 for iOS, has released the first installment in the series Max Payne, which was originally developed by the Remedy studio. The game was originally released on PC, Playstation 2 and Xbox in 2001, and a year later it made its debut on Mac. It mainly builds on a large amount of action, the gloomy atmosphere of cold New York and Bullet Time, an element that the developers borrowed from the cult film Matrix from 1999.

Max Payne Mobile is a 100% port of the original game, only the controls and partially the main menu have changed. A classic pair of virtual joysticks are used to move and look around, while buttons on the display are used for other actions. In terms of graphics, the game cannot be compared to the latest iOS titles like Infinity Blade, after all it is a 12 year old graphics engine, but it is still one of the best games you can download on the App Store. This is due to the gameplay, interesting story and playing time.

Burnout Crash - in the sign of destruction

Renowned game company Electronic Arts has brought another well-known game from consoles and computers to iOS - Burnout Crash! So far, the Burnout series of street racing, where collisions and demolitions played a big role, has enjoyed a decent popularity, but according to the first reports, it seems that the destructive sequel for iOS has not done very well.

Burnout Crash! is released in a universal version for both iPhone and iPad, and your goal is simple – you choose a car to drive into a busy intersection, where you then have to cause as much damage as possible. The more mischief you do, the more points you get. You move the car around the screen by dragging your finger and try to create a giant explosion.

There are several game modes available, including different tracks and intersections, but the biggest problem is Burnout Crash! it's that you're not even really in control of most of what happens on screen. The control does not add to the experience either, because the car is simply controlled in a different way than by sliding your finger across the screen. And actor David Hasselhoff in the trailer doesn't help matters either.
