News from the world of applications

Vidyo's iOS screen recording app briefly infiltrated the App Store (January 6)

Although it didn't catch on too much in the App Store, the Vidyo app was available for purchase for a while, allowing you to record your iOS screen. Such a thing is not possible in the iOS environment without jailbreak and it is against the rules of the App Store. But the application used an interesting trick – it simulated mirroring through AirPlay.

Of course, the app quickly gained publicity, and Apple quickly corrected its failure in the approval process. So now you can no longer buy it from the App Store. However, those who managed to purchase it can use the option of recording at 1080p resolution with a frequency of 60 frames per second.

Through the microphone of the iOS device, it is also possible to record sound, so the recording is completely full-fledged. The resulting videos can be exported to the Camera Roll or shared via Internet services.

If you didn't have time to buy the app and the ability to record the iOS screen would be useful for you, know that once connected to a computer, such a thing is no problem. On the other hand, the QuickTime Player system application, which is part of every Mac and also exists in the Windows version, allows recording the screen of the iOS device display.

Messenger already has over 800 million monthly active users and Facebook has big plans for it (7/1)

According to Facebook's official data, Messenger already has more than 800 million users worldwide who are active at least every month. Facebook's head of communication products, David Marcus, also commented on the news.

He indicated that in 2016, Messenger will focus mainly on enabling the purchase of products and services. Signs of this trend already appeared last year, when Messenger began offering users in the US the option to order a ride with the Uber service.

Marcus also mentioned the "M" virtual assistance that Facebook is developing based on its advances in artificial intelligence research. "M" should gradually become a daily companion for users when arranging basic things such as restaurant reservations, ordering flowers or planning tasks.

So it is certain that Facebook sees great potential in Messenger and users have a lot to look forward to. The application will definitely not be used only for communication between friends. It is intended to become the center of all user interaction with the surrounding world.

New applications

The CloudMagic mail application has also arrived on OS X

[youtube id=”2n0dVQk64Bg” width=”620″ height=”350″]

CloudMagic, an email client until now only available on iOS, brings its elegance and precise design also to OS X. It does not try to offer many sophisticated functions, it is primarily about simplicity, efficiency and a focused user experience. The application primarily displays only the content of the mailbox in which the user is currently located, a search field at the top of the window and a few functional icons (for adding to favorites, creating a new email and switching between mailboxes and categories).

After hovering the mouse over an email, several additional control elements will appear on the right, allowing you to delete, move and otherwise manipulate messages without having to open them. Marking the boxes on the left then marks several messages, and the same is also possible by simply dragging the cursor, as in the Finder.

In general, CloudMagic is intended for users who use email quite often, but not very "intensively" - it offers them a quick, simple and effective solution.

CloudMagic also has features like Handoff for seamless transition between devices while in use, Remote Wipe for remote wipe, and supports services like iCloud, Gmail, IMAP, Exchange (with Active Syns and EWS) and many more.

V Mac App Store is CloudMagic available for 19,99 euros.

Jetpack Fighter is a modern action game for iOS

[youtube id=”u7JdrFkw8Vc” width=”620″ height=”350″]

The player's task in Jetpack Fighter, a game from the creators of SMITE, is to fight through hordes of enemies to protect Mega City. At the same time, he has many characters (acquired gradually through achievements and completing challenges) with different strengths and even more elements to improve the abilities of the given characters, such as weapons and shields. The game is divided into levels, each of which ends with a boss fight. It is therefore possible to compete with other players by measuring the times needed to fight through the levels.

Graphically, the game resembles the frenetic battles of Japanese anime, it is 3D, but the player usually moves in only two directions.

At the time of writing this post, Jetpack Fighter is only available for free in the American App Store, it should appear in the Czech version soon.

Photo Find will show you the way to the location from the photo in the Notification Center

An interesting app we tried this week is Photo Find. This simple tool allows you to navigate to the location where a specific photo was taken. In order for the application to start navigating you, you just need to copy a specific image with geolocation data to your clipboard.

Interestingly, the application uses a widget in the Notification Center. In it, the application will show you the direction and distance to the place where the photo was taken. When you click on the widget, you will also get to the interface of the application itself, which after clicking on the distance data will even allow you to start navigation through traditional navigation applications (Google Maps, Apple Maps or Waze).

If you are interested in how the app works, take a look illustrative video on Facebook. If you are interested in the Photo Find tool, you can use it free from the App Store.

Important update

The fourth version of LastPass offers a more modern look and new features

LastPass is one of the most popular keychains, i.e. applications for storing and managing passwords. Its latest version differs from the previous one primarily in its appearance, which with its minimalistic but distinctive graphics is closer to current operating systems. But perhaps more important is its newly acquired clarity. The application is divided into two parts, on the left is a bar with filters and parts of the application, on the right is the content itself. Passwords can now be displayed as a list or icons, and adding new ones is simple thanks to the large "+" button in the lower right corner.

One of the most important features of the new LastPass is sharing. Passwords are available not only across all major platforms (OS X, iOS, Android and Windows), but also to anyone who gets access to them from the account owner. An overview of who has access to which passwords will help keep the "Sharing Center" sections of the app organized. Everything is automatically synchronized, of course.

The "Emergency Access" feature has also been added, which will allow selected people to access the user's key fob "in case of emergency". You can set the time for which the key fob owner can refuse emergency access.
