Now, if you were to search for the official Twitter iOS app under the “Social Networks” category, you wouldn’t find it. Twitter has moved to the "News" section, and while it may seem like a small organizational change at first glance, it's actually a fairly major gesture that has a reason.

Twitter isn't doing too well financially, and shareholders aren't exactly happy with the network's user base either. Although Twitter is growing slightly, it still has "only" 310 million active users, which is a rather pitiful number compared to Facebook. However, the company's co-founder and current CEO Jack Dorsey has been trying to suggest to people for a long time that comparing Twitter with Facebook is not appropriate.

During a conference call after announcing the financial results, Dorsey reiterated that the purpose of Twitter is to do what it does in real time going on. So on further reflection, Twitter's move from social networking to news tools makes thematic sense. But the change certainly also has strategic reasons.

From the eternal comparison of user bases, of course, Dorsey's company does not come out very well from the pair of Facebook and Twitter, and it is evident that he does not play the first violin. It would therefore be extremely beneficial for Twitter's image if such comparisons did not occur. In short, Twitter cannot beat Facebook in the number of active users, and it is natural that it wants to profile itself as a different service. Moreover, he really is a different service.

Most people go to Twitter for information, news, news and opinions. In short, Dorsey's social network is a place where users primarily follow accounts that have information value for them, while Facebook is more of a tool for getting an overview of the activity of their acquaintances and a means of communicating with them.

Twitter and Facebook are diametrically different services, and it is in the interest of Jack Dorsey's company to make this clear to the public. After all, if Twitter doesn't succeed, it will always be just "a much less popular Facebook." So, moving Twitter to the "News" section is only part of the puzzle and a logical step that can greatly help the entire company and its external image.
