The Twitter company published information last night that access passwords to all user accounts may have been compromised. It was supposed to happen based on an error in the security system. The Company encourages its users to change their account passwords as soon as possible.

Due to an unspecified internal bug, passwords to all accounts were available for a limited time in an unsecured file inside the company's internal network. According to the official statement, it should not have happened that anyone got access to the passwords exposed in this way, even so, the company recommends that users change their passwords.

The official press release states that at a critical moment, the password encryption system stopped working, and thanks to the error, passwords began to be written to an unprotected internal log. Allegedly, only company employees could get into it, and even that did not happen. The question remains if Twitter would actually report that this happened…

There is also no indication of the extent of this leak. Foreign media speculate that almost all user accounts were compromised. Maybe that's why Twitter recommends all its users to consider changing their password (not only on Twitter, but also on other accounts where you have the same password).
