The first update has arrived in the Mac App Store Tweebot 2 for Mac. With version 2.0.1, the developers are adding support for a new tweet citation standard that allows you to attach the original tweet to your comment in the form of a url link. This gives you much more room for your comment and the 140 character limit is reduced to just a short link, no matter how long the original tweet is. The link is then displayed in Twitter applications as a preview of the original tweet.

Developers from Tapbots on their own they already promised the blog in February, that they will release the new Tweetbot with OS X Yosemite support before WWDC. That's what they did, but they didn't have time to add support for the new tweet citation method to version 2.0. It thus comes additionally through an update.

In addition, the updated app brings faster switching between accounts and support for longer private messages has also been added. Twitter is planning to abolish the 140 character limit for messages in July and thus wants to become a more capable communication platform. So when this news arrives, Tweebot will be ready.

Tweetbot for Mac hasn't received any other news yet, but the update includes fixes for a number of bugs, including the most pressing ones. This removed a glitch that sometimes caused the application to crash when creating a new mention (@mention) or when uploading a profile picture.
