What's the first thing you see on your watch? It's a case, of course, but that's not the point of why you're looking at them. You want to see the clock face and the current time on it. In the case of smart watches, various complications also inform you about activity status, weather, remaining battery capacity and much more. The dial is also what it says these are except for the strap hodinky they are yours. But are they prettier on the Apple Watch Series 7 or the Galaxy Watch4 Classic?
It is not a direct competition, because the Apple Watch only works with iPhones, while the Galaxy Watch4, on the other hand, only works with Android phones. Even so, with them, Samsung wants to at least approach the success of the Apple Watch among iPhone users in the Android world, and this is the only real alternative to the Apple Watch with the really important functions. In addition, watch faces present in Wear OS 3 can be added by watch manufacturers themselves, be it Samsung, Google, or anyone else (although no one else currently offers a smartwatch with this system).
In the previous article, we already described how Samsung and Google copied from Apple during the development of Wear OS 3. On both watch models, you can edit their dials by holding your finger on the display for a longer time. With the Apple Watch, you can switch directly between the dials with gestures by swiping your finger across the display from right to left and vice versa, this is not possible with the Galaxy Watch4, here you always have to hold your finger on the display and only then set the desired dial.
Countless variations of appearances
Apple already has a lot of experience in developing the ideal "visual" for its watch, and it's easy to see that it's further along in this regard. Its watch faces are simply stunning, graphically polished and utterly captivating. It doesn't have to be the ones intended for Series 7 at all, you can set any older one and you can see how every element here is thought out to the last detail, even with regard to Always On.
The Galaxy Watch dials are rather strange. The basic ones that are shown in all the promo photos are quite nice. The premium analogue clearly refers to the classics of the watchmaking world such as the chronograph, also thanks to the complications. You will also find a typical "panda" dial. The toys will certainly like Animals, of which there are several types, Big Number or Active are also interesting. But that's kind of where it ends. All others look either tacky or too sporty.
You can also personalize most watch faces while setting them up, in both cases. You can set the colors, indexes, often also the hands, etc. You can do this more complicatedly in the watch or more simply in the applications in the phones, i.e. Watch or Samsung Wearables. In any case, with the Galaxy Watch4, you will not achieve the qualities of the Apple Watch Series 7. With them, it simply makes sense to have several watch faces and switch between them, but in Wear OS 3 you will not want to do this much. Here, you set one watch face and will probably use that one exclusively and not bother with the others much.
It's complicated
While the Apple Watch faces are prettier, prettier and more engaging, I can't help but think that the Samsung Galaxy Watch4's complications are more useful. Here you can have a direct overview of the steps, which are far behind at the expense of calories at Apple, or even the current heart rate. Yes, indeed the current one, not the one that presents you with a result 5 minutes old, and you have to tap the heart symbol complication first. With Wear OS 3, it refreshes in real time, whatever you're doing. And it doesn't affect the battery.
Apple Watch owners are also dependent on Apple releasing a new watchOS and adding new watch faces with it. With Wear OS 3, you can download new and new available in Google Play. But the question is whether you want to do it. Many are paid and none beats the standard ones anyway. But if you look hard enough, you can also find ones similar to Apple Watch watch faces. But would you really want to use them?
What are the "complications"?
Those are the little accessories on the dial. For example, the date and more. Just google for a while.
Are you serious that the watch faces are prettier on the Apple Watch? Those nasty coloring books? Although I have an iPhone myself, I preferred to go green with some functions and bought a garmin.
Well, they look worse than the zero generation apple watch.
Nothing looks worse than AW fairground toys of any generation.
There is no need to compare, for AW owners, the dials from AW are nicer, for Samsung owners, the one has nicer dials.
Well, I don't know which ones have nicer dials, but the Samsung one is much more detailed in terms of displaying information. And it bothers me that the modular compact display does not have 5 second hands for digital markings. And there are only two to choose from. So it's not too bad.
I had both,…. for tragic endurance I sold them…. only Garmin can last several days even when watching atlktv..
I have an AW and the next watch will definitely not be an AW. The durability is terrible, I never liked the design and the dials are something terrible. I don't understand how anyone can like them and especially how you can praise them in the article.
