The tablet market is nowhere near as competitive as it was sometime between 2011 and 2014. At that time, other manufacturers were trying to ensure that it was their model that would be the best seller. Apple has dominated this segment for the last two or three years, because the others have somewhat resented it. Apple's economic results for the past quarter, which were announced this Tuesday, confirm this trend again. Although the tablet market is collapsing, Apple's position is still unshakable and the iPad is still number one.

Apple announced on Tuesday that it sold 2018 million iPads in the last quarter (ie January-March 9,1), increasing its share of the tablet market by more than 2%. The iPad has been the best-selling tablet ever since its introduction in 2010. Shortly after its launch, competing companies (especially Samsung) tried to compete with the iPad, but they did not last long in their efforts, and in recent years the iPad has essentially been the dominant product in the sector, with no real competition.

Even so, however, sales of iPads are falling, as it seems that the 'tabletomania' of previous years is gradually declining. Users are more fond of large smartphones, which, thanks to their giant screens, can replace tablets in many cases. Users also change tablets significantly more often than mobile phones, which is also reflected in the sales figures.

If we look at specific numbers from the last quarter, 9,1 million iPads sold represent a market share of 28,8%. Year-on-year, Apple thus improved by 0,2 million units sold and almost 4% market share. In second place (by a long distance) is Samsung, which sold 5,3 million tablets and currently owns 16,7 of the market. Sales of tablets from Samsung fell by 11% year-on-year. On the other hand, Huawei, which is currently in third place (3,2 million units sold and 10% market share), is running ahead. A huge drop was then recorded by Amazon and other manufacturers (see table). In total, sales fell by almost 12% year-on-year.

As for Apple, it is currently in its best position since 2014, when it held just under 33% of the market. After three years of declines, the numbers are rising again, and it can be expected that due to the recently introduced cheaper iPad, this trend will continue again in the coming months. In addition, this year we will see another update to the iPad product line, this time focused on the Pro models. From the point of view of tablets, Apple has started very well and most likely the company has a pleasant future.
