It is here. The long-secret TomTom news is here. It is not another navigation or sports watch, although it is quite close to the latter. TomTom is also expanding its scope into the field of action cameras, and since this market is mainly dominated by GoPro, TomTom has to come up with something extra. So let's see what the TomTom Bandit action camera has to offer against the competition.

The design and execution are the first to impress. The camera is waterproof, and on top of its body it looks as if it has an integrated sports watch - an identical four-way controller and the same display. In addition, you can pair the TomTom Bandit action camera with an external heart rate monitor.

As for video recording, the Bandit can handle up to 4K at 15 frames per second and 2,7K at 30 frames per second. In 1080p, the camera can record up to 60 fps and in 720p up to 120 fps. Those who want even more extreme can record up to 180 fps in WVGA mode. TomTom Bandit can take photos with a resolution of 16 megapixels. All footage is saved on a microSD card, the maximum capacity of which is 128 GB. In terms of parameters, the TomTom Bandit is the same as the GoPro Hero4.

However, TomTom is further ahead of the competition in terms of built-in sensors. In addition to Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, accelerometer and gyroscope, it also offers a barometric altimeter and GPS, while no one else offers GPS information directly in the video. In addition, you can connect everything with the above-mentioned heart rate monitor.

You will use Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity primarily for the upcoming mobile application, in which you can very easily edit the captured footage and also share it immediately. According to TomTom, a PC app is also in the works. Of course, you can also edit the captured images in other applications, but they can no longer handle the GPS information from Bandit. The camera also offers USB 3.0, through which you can also charge.

Another advantage of the TomTom Bandit, especially for Czech users, could be the easily updateable firmware, which could also bring the Czech language. TomTom is going to start selling its new action camera immediately, the price is expected to be around 429 euros, i.e. 11 crowns. The store is currently negotiating availability on the Czech market Always.cz.
