Tom Hanks likes old things, at least when it comes to correspondence. He writes on an old mechanical typewriter and goes to the post office almost every day. But at the same time, he likes the iPad. Or is there some conspiracy behind it. Anyway, Tom Hanks released an iPad app yesterday to simulate the experience of typing on a mechanical typewriter.

Well, Tom Hanks didn't create the app himself - Hitcents helped him. The app is called Hanx Writer and it simulates a typewriter with images, sounds and the writing process. Most of the display is covered by a keyboard combining a modern look with that of the last century, the virtual paper moves from right to left as you type. At the end of each line, a clink will be heard announcing the need to move the paper one line down, at the end of each page the written paper must be replaced with a clean one. Even the button for deleting the text can be set to a form in which the unwanted letters are only covered with a cross (typewriters, of course, could not delete the text).

Perhaps the only thing missing is the actual feeling when pressing the key. Even Tom Hanks alone doesn't have enough influence to make the iPad lose its key feature of the all-touch experience. The famous actor himself says of the app that it is his "little gift to the future Luddite hipsters of the world".

With this comment, one cannot help but remember this (one of many) video lesson, which shows that there will be interest in the application. Although nothing compares to a real typewriter, not everyone is willing to carry one. Hanx Writer thus provides a small compromise, thanks to which you can express your disapproval of the modern world to those around you in a way that is convenient for you.

Hanx Writer is available for free in the App Store, in-app payments allow you to purchase various changes to the appearance of the application.
