Today in New York was held a benefit event of the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights, a non-profit organization helping to realize the vision of a peaceful and just world of the American politician Robert Kennedy, brother of John F. Kennedy. Tim Cook accepted the award here Ripple of Hope for 2015. It is awarded to people from business, entertainment and activist communities who demonstrate commitment to the idea of social change.

Cook's acceptance speech lasted nearly twelve minutes, and in it the Apple executive talked about many important issues of the day, such as the ongoing refugee crisis, the issue of privacy in the fight against terrorism, climate change, as well as donating Apple products to public schools.

"More than half of the states in this country today still do not offer basic protections to gay and transgender people, leaving millions vulnerable to discrimination and ostracism because of who they are or who they love," Cook said.

He went on to address the refugee crisis: “Today, some in this country would reject innocent men, women and children seeking refuge, no matter how many background checks they had to go through, simply based on where they were born. Victims of war and now victims of fear and misunderstanding.'

Indirectly, Cook also described the reasons for Apple's help in public schools: "Too many children today are denied access to a quality education simply because of where they live. They begin their lives facing strong headwinds and disadvantages they didn't deserve. We could make it better, Robert Kennedy would say, and since we can make it better, we must act.”

Cook mentioned Robert F. Kennedy several more times in his speech. He noted that he has two photos of him on his office wall that he looks at every day: "I think about his example, what it means to me as an American, but also more specifically, to my role as an Apple director."

One of Kennedy's quotes that Cook recalled was: "Wherever new technology and communication bring people and nations together, the concerns of the individual inevitably become the concerns of all." The director of Apple, the company leader in efforts to reduce the negative impact on the environment, said that this attitude is reflected in his products: “There is such a wonderful optimism in this statement. That's the spirit that drives us at Apple. […] his dedication to protecting the privacy of our users by remembering that your information always belongs to you, and the hard work of running our company entirely on renewable energy and encouraging others to do the same.”
