It was clear that during yesterday's conference, during which Apple's management published the company's economic results for the last quarter of last year, the topic of slowing down iPhones and discounted battery replacement events will also be discussed. Apple announced this at the very end of last year, as a form of compensation for affected users whose iPhone no longer has the performance they were used to from a new device.

During the conference call, there was a question directed at Tim Cook. The interviewer asked whether the current discounted battery replacement campaign that Apple has been running since the beginning of this year will have any effect on new iPhone sales. Specifically, the interviewer was interested in how Cook et al. they see an impact on the so-called update rate when users now see that they can increase the performance of their device again by "just" changing the battery.

We never thought much about what the discounted battery replacement program would do to new phone sales. Thinking about it at this point, I'm still not sure how much the promotion will translate into sales. We resorted to it because it felt like the right thing to do and a friendly step towards our customers. The calculation of whether this would somehow affect the sales of new phones was not decisive at that moment and was not taken into account.

In his short monologue on the subject, Cook also mentioned how he sees the overall reliability of iPhones as such. And according to his words, she is fantastic.

My opinion is that the general reliability of iPhones is fantastic. The market for used iPhones is bigger than ever and getting bigger every year. This shows that iPhones are reliable phones even in the long run. Both electronics retailers and carriers are reacting to this trend, coming up with new and new programs for owners who want to get rid of their older iPhones or trade them in for a new one. iPhones thus retain their value excellently even in the case of used devices.

This makes it much easier for many people to buy a new device as they get some of their money back for the older model. We are extremely comfortable with this situation. On the one hand, we have users who buy new models every year. On the other side, we have other owners who buy a second-hand iPhone and thus basically expand the membership base of users of Apple products.
