Apple has worked closely with Nike since the early days of the iPod in the early 21s. Since 2005, he has been a member of the Nike Tim Cook board of directors. Now the company is going through changes in management, which also affects the position of Apple's CEO.

While until now Cook was only one of the board members, on Thursday he was promoted to the position of independent lead director of the board. In addition, Cook also serves as a member of the Chair of the Compensation Committee at Nike and is also a member of the Nominating and Corporate Leadership Committee. Traditionally, it's not entirely clear what duties Cook's new position entails.

Until now, the chairman of the board was Nike co-founder Phil Knight. He announced his plan to gradually leave the company a year ago and handed over his role to the current director of Nike, Mark Parker. Knight will remain on the Nike board as chairman emeritus.
