Although Apple continues to improve the capabilities of its iPhones and its iOS brings new and new features, it still forgets many, and quite basic ones. With their help, it could become an even more universal device that would not need to install more and more applications from the App Store. We are talking about some form of photo retouching.

The iOS 17 operating system can do a lot. It will probably satisfy the average user, the more demanding ones at least consider it sufficient, but the most demanding ones lack a lot. It doesn't have to be about who knows how complex functions. For example, such a basic sound manager would certainly be appreciated by everyone. Instead, we have features like sticker creation or Sleep Mode with very limited use.

Lots of reserves in the field of photography

In the Camera application, we do not find professional functions, such as determining the ISO value or white balance. The editing also lacks some basic elements, such as retouching. With the Magic Eraser function, Google proves how useful it is to erase objects from a photo that shouldn't be there. This year, it took it even further with the integration of artificial intelligence and taught its Pixels some really interesting tricks that we iPhone owners can really envy. You can watch it in the video below.

But others also manage retouching, and quite well. For example, Samsung phones have an option in the basic editor Deleting objects, which actually works the same (but what they inexplicably lack is a simple vignette). In addition, the AI itself detects objects here when you just tap them with your finger. So you don't have to choose anything complicated. However, it is true that the processing of the result is no longer at the same level as it is in the case of Google.

If you want to retouch anything on iPhone and its iOS, you need to download the appropriate app. There are actually a lot of them in the App Store, but it's already a complication. If you only edit photos in Photos, you have to click through to edit them. If you are looking for an application, we recommend the title with all ten TouchRetouch, which is really great (and is also on Android).

Will we see it in iOS 18?

There are rumors that Apple will step into AI next year, but it will have enough power. Although indirectly, not only Tim Cook but other representatives of the company declare this. There's a lot of catching up to do because, by the way, Samsung just announced today its form of generative AI, which is called Samsung Gauss. Since artificial intelligence also takes care of retouching as such, we sincerely hope that iOS 18 will also bring some tools for its use in photography.
