The once very popular task manager or GTD tool Things is being increasingly successfully buried by its authors by not being able to update their application for iPhones and iPads even more than a year after iOS 7 was revealed. At least the positive thing is that their application should be ready for iOS 8, but unfortunately not in terms of graphical and user interface, but only in terms of system extensions.

A brand new version that would bring a modern look to mobile devices and at the same time blow a fresh wind on the desktop application has been in development for many months. According to the so-called board status however, it is still only in the alpha phase, so we definitely won't see it anytime soon.

Version 2.3 of Things for iPhone and iPad is currently in the approval process, but it will only bring some bug fixes. It will be more interesting when version 2.5 is about to be prepared, for which the developer studio Cultured Code is conducting internal testing, and we can only hope that this Things update will also be available for download at the time of the official release of iOS 8 for the general public.

Things 2.5 will get support for system extensions on iPhone and iPad, which will make it very easy to create new tasks in other applications. Cultured Code demonstrates the new feature in the video below. For example, in Safari, you will be able to mark any text and send it directly to Things as a new task via the share button, with the fact that you can name it at the same time.

Similar capabilities should become standard in iOS 8 thanks to extensions, and we can expect similar features in other apps as developers implement them. A similar extension already, for example demonstrated also 1Password.
