Even those from the movie Steve Jobs did not expect great financial success, it must have been surprising how few people came to see it in the cinema. Especially if we remember to first rave reviews, which continued even later.

On the review aggregator R the film currently has a rating of 84% (7,6/10 average rating), on IMDb 7,7/10, on ČSFD 76%. JOBS from 2013 with Ashton Kutcher in the lead role, on the other hand, was received by critics and audiences from the beginning as average. Still, it made more money worldwide than the work of Danny Boyle and Aaron Sorkin.

At least one of the reasons for its failure is likely to be harsh criticism from many people who were Jobs' friends, led by By Tim Cook, Jony Ive and co-founder of Pixar, By Ed Catmull.

In a direct comparison of the US grosses of the two films, it appears that si Steve Jobs he's not doing so badly when he's earned approx $17,7 million, while Kutcher's film just over 16 million. The latter, however, attracted more viewers overseas, where it earned nearly $20 million, which translates to roughly $36 million worldwide.

But people in Europe and other continents outside the United States tend to ignore Sorkin's feat, at least for now, since they only spent about 6,5 million dollars to watch it. So a total of about 24 million, which is a third less than the film from 2013. In addition, its budget was only 12 million dollars, while this year's Steve Jobs cost 30 million. So Kutcher's films were not successful, but Sorkin's is still significantly loss-making.

The last way to Steve Jobs may become profitable after all, is a success at the Oscars at the end of next February, which could initiate a re-release of the film. According to the current predictions magazine Hollywood Reporter this scenario does not seem so improbable, since it attributes at least a nomination of Aaron Sorkin for the best adapted screenplay to a real possibility, and a nomination in four other categories also appears as a "possibility".
