Renowned American paper The Wall Street Journal came up with very interesting information regarding sales of new iPhones in Japan. As it seems, the land of the rising sun is not very promising for new products from Apple, and the iPhone XR in particular is not selling as well as Apple had imagined. The company will fight this trend in two ways. On the one hand, the Japanese market will become the first where iPhone XR prices will be reduced across the board, and on the other hand, last year's iPhone X will return to the Japanese market.
The editors of the WSJ managed to get information from people from the Japanese distribution network, according to which the discount should take place already within the next week. The new models sell poorly in Japan mainly due to the huge popularity of the previous models, especially the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, which are still sold at relatively low prices here, as everywhere else in the world. The discounting of the iPhone XR should thus convince customers to reach for the newer model.
The return of the iPhone X to sales is said to take place for two reasons. On the one hand, it will be another device that will offer a more favorable price than the current novelties. The second reason, however, is said to be that Apple needs to "get rid" of the manufactured and delivered displays from Samsung, which it still has in its warehouses. It would not be the first time that an unsold model would return to the selected market. Apple also dealt with a similar situation in India, where it offered older and cheaper iPhones in order to increase its market share there.
Most journalists and analysts agree that discounting a novelty that has been on sale for just over a month is a relatively unusual move. Especially in the case of Apple, which is not in the habit of suddenly discounting its products. Who knows how it will go on. For example, Apple will respond in more markets than just Japan. In recent days, information has been circulating on the web about how Apple is reducing orders for new iPhones from suppliers, because there is not as much interest in them as was expected. This wave of discounting may thus only be at its beginning.
As an old iPhone user, I have to say that not only the iPhone XS (both versions) but also the new iPads are brutally overpriced, so much so that people simply understand that I don't need one extra marginal function for all my mobile phones and save 50000 Czechs, which is a brutal price. on a super note... I'm not even talking about the macbook pro... that's really crazy
So maybe Apple will grab its nose and its shareholders will start to get rid of the stock somewhat more en masse, which would mean that apple would have to drastically add innovations or reduce prices... then it sells great mobile phones and iPads, but those prices are simply not normal... and that's the fact of the matter ivce. But then I don't really want the ip6s plus and macbook pro 2013... the new boxes don't offer anything new
As it is necessary to recognize that the sale of electronics is simply a business and it is primarily about profit. Those prices at Apple are really brutal. Surcharges for memory incredible. Apple is obviously testing everything, where is the upper limit of how far it can go. He has apparently already come across it on iPhones and probably on Macs too. Maybe it's a better approach than, for example, Xiaomi, which was so low with prices that despite huge sales, they were earning a minimum. Apple maximizes profit despite declining sales. When he wants to increase sales, he can easily drop the price by 20 percent and people will go crazy. I'm more concerned about the slow withdrawal of certain products. Routers, monitors, mouse and keyboard not upgraded for years, so today I bought Logitech Master MX 2s instead of Magic mouse. On sale for 1500. I require a backlit keyboard, so Apple is out of luck. So as a result, I have a logitech mouse and keyboard and a Samsung monitor on my desk. In the corner of the mac mini, which is not even visible, so an uninitiated person does not even know that I work on a Mac. At this rate, Cook can also cut peripherals and eventually the entire Mac division. Xcode will be overwritten under Widle and done. Only iPhones, iPads, Watch and Airpods will remain. But I wouldn't want to live to see that.
Totally agree :-( I bought the Air in 2011, along with the mouse and since then the mouse looks and works exactly as crap as it did back then. How long has it been? 7 years. It's a crazy time in electronics :-(
It's good, they can't raise those prices forever.
I must say that I was very interested in your (intelligent after a long time on the web) discussion. I got my first Macbook Pro with TB (and first Mac in general) last year at BF thank god for a lovely 40k ex VAT. So to this day, I don't regret it even though I keep reading how everyone reacts to a bad keyboard or a useless Touch Bar. It's probably because I didn't jump on the bandwagon until last year, but I've learned to use TB quite a bit, and above all I don't regret the price, even though I have to admit, it wasn't small. I bought an iPhone upgrade this year and switched from the 7 to the XS and honestly, if it wasn't for the fact that I sold the 7 for 10k and got the XS Demo for 22k, I probably wouldn't have gone for it. It's starting to get really expensive, and it makes me even more sad that when I was in America this year, we bought a (current at the time) iPhone X there for 22 compared to 30 in the Czech Republic, and it's all the more fun when an American has a totally different the economy complains about expensive iPhones. So it's sad that in Europe we pay 1/3 more for an iPhone on which we have half the functions compared to the US (apple pay, siri, news, etc...) and the peak was when they introduced the Macbook Air this year = the always praised gateway to the Mac world … so what do we do about it? Well, let's make a copy of the Pro and make it a few bucks cheaper than the Pro, and it will definitely sell. Are you serious ? is this the strategy? I can't help it, this year the biggest Wow for me was the iPads even though the whole thing is crazy, just crazy. That's off the table. In the era of Tim, iPhones, watches, airpods, services and ipads are doing very well. But I can't shake the feeling that Mac has taken a hard line. Can someone rationally explain to me why they introduced a macbook with Touch ID at a time when Face ID is everywhere? So that they would have a reason to update next year? In conclusion, I want to add: Apple products are not only expensive in America, but they are actually almost 25% more expensive here because of the euro, and yes, I agree with the comments below. I hope we are starting to hit the ceiling.
Those surcharges for everything at Apple are extreme. Compared to the iPhone 8 Plus, the iPhone XR has FaceId instead of TouchId and a slightly larger display, and it doesn't even have 3D touch, and it has a worse camera and an additional charge of almost 100 euros.
All macbooks, mac minis and iMacs could start with 16GB RAM and 256GB disk. RAM prices have fallen and 16GB can be bought for 140 euros. Apple wants an extra 250 euros for 16GB of RAM. The prices of SSD drives have fallen and you can buy a 250TB NVME drive for 1 euros. Apple wants an additional fee of 250 euros for a 256GB disk. It is limited in the basic equipment and the surcharges are extreme. Likewise, the surcharges for processors are extreme. Apple asks for more premiums than it buys from Intel.
I hope Apple's sales drop, because that's the only reason for Apple to lower prices. Apple's share price has already written off all profits for more than a year ?????????
The XR has a better camera - it doesn't have a second lens, but it's only good for portraits anyway, while the Xr can also do portraits thanks to the software, which will definitely improve in the future. Like the Xs, the Xr has a larger chip, which improves the quality of photos in worse conditions and overall. That's better than the second-rate low-quality lens on the 8 Plus that gets little use. Anyway, the bezels make the Xr look awfully dated.
I appreciate the substantive and useful discussion, it's not that common :-)
My point of view - for the money it makes no sense to change MacPro 2012, so far it can handle all things and the battery (for the age of NTB) can handle great things. 5 hours of clerical work/net/film.
iP6s performance is also fine, the only thing that makes me think about replacing it is the burnt dust on the camera lens, which got there when the screen cracked (and it's not Apple's fault, but my drunken stupidity) and then the BATTERY. I changed it at the beginning of the cheap exchange event and now it's a disaster. Does anyone have a similar experience? In the morning, I turn on Low Power Mode and have to make sure it lasts until the evening. Navigation or other similar applications reduce even 10% in a few minutes. In winter, at 50% and below it is a matter of minutes before it shuts off.
And my battery is about a year old.
I was therefore thinking of exchanging it for an Xr, where I expect much better durability. Well, I'm waiting for now, I'll probably buy it in France for a tariff, or they now have X for 299 EUR for Black Friday...
edit –
so amazon offers Xr in France for 739 EUR, which is already acceptable.
