Apple has been working every day since the release of the new Apple TV to improve the App Store that appeared in the first version of tvOS. After the addition of rankings, categories have now also been added, which will serve for easier navigation within the store. It was opened on an Apple set-top box for the very first time.
For now, the range of applications on Apple TV is not that wide, but they are increasing at a very fast pace, and together with their greater number, the categories of the App Store will also expand. It will no longer be necessary to browse applications randomly or enter the name of the application directly. Apple deploys categories gradually, so you may not see them until later.
In tvOS, Apple also offers users a significant simplification of purchasing applications, that is, especially those applications. In ours first experiences with the new Apple TV we wrote that it is advisable to turn off the need to enter a password, at least for free applications, because typing text on the on-screen keyboard is not entirely friendly.
However, Apple was aware of this fact, so in tvOS it is possible to replace your Apple ID password with a numeric code. You can write the one with the remote control much faster.
So if you need to have protected purchases on Apple TV as well, activate the number lock in Settings > Restrictions, where under Parental supervision first turn on restrictions, enter a four-digit code. Once you have chosen the code, activate it at Purchases and loans or In-app purchases.
If you want the App Store on Apple TV to not require passwords at all, you can do so in Settings > Accounts > iTunes & App Store > Password Settings.
Thanks for the great tip! I'm just curious when the categories and top charts will arrive, they are not yet displayed in the Czech app store. Neither force quitting the application nor restarting the TV will load the new app store.
and as always for the improvement of the older model, no improvement, no update
I don't think it can be improved. First of all, there is an integrated 8GB memory for movie caching (so you can forget about applications).
The only things they could update are iCloud Photos and Apple Music. And redo the design of the entire system so that it at least looks like the new appleTV. Maybe we can still expect that.
Don't expect that… Apple needs to sell the new Apple TV and not worry about older products…
The old one will still be sold, Apple music may appear at the beginning of next year... I have no idea where you get your assurance that we have nothing to expect. Yes, Apple needs to sell new products, like the iPad Air 2, but they still make sure the new iOS works on the old iPad 2…
What is your real experience with the products?
I understand that you take articles from foreign servers, but could you at least provide them with a comment relevant to Czech conditions?
In the Czech ATV App Store, there is no categorization, there are not even rankings, and there is no HBO.
In short, nothing has changed in the entire week that I have ATV 4 at home. Hell, it's a test of patience, to read about what is already to the west of us and maybe one day it will also be here :(
I wouldn't see it so black ;-) The author himself writes in the article: Apple deploys the category gradually, so it is possible that you will only see them later. So take it for granted that we have something to look forward to ;-) Hell, the Czech TvAppStore is just around the corner...
So does that mean that classic applications from a phone or tablet can't go there? For example, power, voyo..., that's the only thing I miss on the old appleTV.
