The macOS operating system offers many options for efficient and pleasant work. Everyone has their favorite tricks and tweaks – for some it might be using keyboard shortcuts, for others it might be voice input, shortcuts or using gestures. Today, we're going to introduce you to several tips and tricks for Mac that everyone should definitely try.

Keyboard shortcuts

On a Mac, you can perform a wide range of operations using only the keyboard. For example, if you press Option (Alt) + function key, the corresponding System Preferences section will open. So, for example, pressing Option (Alt) + Volume Up will launch sound preferences on a Mac. Use the Fn + C keys to quickly launch the Control Center, press the Fn + E keys to activate the emoji selection table.

Useful Terminal

On a Mac, Terminal can also serve you well, even if you don't really like the command line. You just need to remember (or rather write down, for example, in Notes) useful commands. For example, if you need to prevent your Mac from sleeping for a certain period of time, use the command caffeinated -t followed by the appropriate value in seconds. And if you would like to check the speed of your Internet connection through the Terminal, you can use the command networkquality.

Dynamic folders in Finder

Do you often work with specific file types? For example, if these are documents in PDF format that you don't want to manually search for or manually add to a selected folder after each creation or download, you can create a so-called dynamic folder in the Finder, where all files will be automatically stored based on the criteria you specify. Just launch the Finder, click File -> New Dynamic Folder on the bar at the top of the screen, and enter the necessary criteria.

Mouse, trackpad and click

Selected actions with the mouse and trackpad can also save you a lot of work and time. For example, if you save an image from the web to your computer and drag the destination folder from the desktop or Finder to the appropriate dialog box, you no longer need to select it in the drop-down menu. If you need to quickly hide open windows on your Mac desktop, hold down Cmd + Option (Alt) on it. And if you want to quickly find out information about your Mac and system, click the Apple menu in the upper left corner of the screen while holding the Option (Alt) key. In the menu that appears, then click on System Information.
