Both in the App Store and Google Play, there are countless different applications for creativity, productivity, entertainment and travel. Some of these applications are intended for a larger, others for a smaller target group of people. Among the minority of users are also people with visual impairments, for whom there are applications available in the App Store and Google Play, especially for recognizing text, colors, objects or clearer navigation. Today's article will be devoted to applications that target the blind, but still find a place in the smartphone of an ordinary person.

Voice Dream Reader

As you might guess from the name, Voice Dream Reader is used to read books or documents aloud. The texts are read in a relatively high-quality synthetic voice, of course it is possible to adjust the speed, pitch or change the voice as needed. But Voice Dream Reader can do incomparably more. There is a built-in sleep timer, the ability to create bookmarks and highlight text. You can add links to cloud storage or websites to the app, making it possible to import books directly from the app. Synchronization of documents, bookmarks and library resources works via iCloud, you can also play books on your watch with connected Bluetooth headphones. The Voice Dream Reader will cost you CZK 499 once, but I personally think that the investment in this reader is worth it.

Voice Dream Scanner

From the workshop of the developer Voice Dream LLC comes a rather successful document scanning application. Not only does it navigate visually impaired users with increasing sound when pointing at text, but it can also read scanned documents with a synthetic voice. You can then save the photographed text directly in the application or export it anywhere. The price of the software is 199 CZK, which probably won't drain your wallet.

Be My Eyes

If you have already tuned into the Eyeless Technique series more than once, you may have noticed the article which Be My Eyes describes in more detail. Simply put, it is a network of sighted volunteers who, if necessary, can help visually impaired people. All they have to do is call the nearest available one in the application, and notifications will arrive to users in the vicinity. After the connection, the camera and microphone are activated, thanks to which the blind can connect with the sighted.
