With the start of sales of the new series of iPhones, its largest and most equipped version also arrived in our editorial office. After unboxing and first setup, we immediately went to test his cameras. We will of course bring you a more comprehensive view, here are at least the first pictures we took with it.

Apple has once again worked on the quality of individual cameras, which can be seen at first glance. The photo module is not only larger, but also protrudes from the back of the device all the more. It wobbles more than before on a flat surface. But it is a necessary tax for the photos it provides us. Apple just doesn't want to go the periscope route just yet.

iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max Camera Specifications

  • Main camera: 48 MPx, 24mm equivalent, 48mm (2x zoom), Quad-pixel sensor (2,44µm quad-pixel, 1,22µm single pixel), ƒ/1,78 aperture, 100% Focus Pixels, 7-element lens, OIS with sensor shift (2nd generation)
  • Telephoto lens: 12 MPx, 77 mm equivalent, 3x optical zoom, aperture ƒ/2,8, 3% Focus Pixels, 6-element lens, OIS
  • Ultra wide angle camera: 12 MPx, 13 mm equivalent, 120° field of view, aperture ƒ/2,2, 100% Focus Pixels, 6-element lens, lens correction
  • Front camera: 12 MPx, aperture ƒ/1,9, autofocus with Focus Pixels technology, 6-element lens

By increasing the resolution of the wide-angle camera, Apple now offers more zoom options in the interface. Even though the wide-angle lens is still at 1x, it now adds the option to take photos at a 2x zoom, the telephoto lens offers a 3x zoom, and the ultra-wide-angle remains at 0,5x. The maximum digital zoom is 15x. The extra step also has an effect on portrait photography, where there are steps 1, 2 and 3x, and it is precisely with the portrait that the extra step makes perhaps the most sense.

For daytime photography and in ideal light, it is difficult to find differences compared to last year's generation, but we will see when night falls how the iPhone 14 Pro (Max) can handle it. Apple boasts that the new product gives up to 2x better results in low light with the main camera, thanks to the new Photonic Engine. Even in extremely low light, much more image data is preserved, and the finished photos come out with brighter, truer colors and more detailed textures. So we'll see.
